Here's a shot of some sort of farm implement I took a couple of weeks ago, if someone would be kind enough to give me some opinions. Thanks in advance.

I am personally drawn to images of this sort. I wish you would have shot it from a little more of an angle instead of straight on, and I'll bet if you boosted your reds it would look much cooler.

Thanks for the comments. I was intentionally going for the silhouette and have others but this one was the most moody. The others aren't so straight on but they don't have the same feeling. This was actually shot early/mid afternoon. My settings were 1/800 sec f/11 ISO 100.

Here's another less moody but not straight on.

Looks like a horse-drawn sickle mower. |

I rather like that shot. Dark, Moody & appropriate for the season.
I know getting a shot under the 150K file size can be a bit tough at times and ofen in the resizing/sharpening proocess, halos are formed around high-contrst borders. The longer I looked at yours, the more the harshness and halos kinda bugged me in a way, particulary around the seat & rear wheel.
Here is a before & after of the same image, cleaning up the edges and punching the blue up a little.
To see the before & after, open each and switch between them in the taskbar.
Depending on your monitor, the differences may be hard to see, as they are subtle. |

Thanks Brad. I tried punching up the blue a little too but found the image was a bit noisy. I'm going to have a go at the original to clean up the noise which should take care of some haloing.

The way to change the sky is in selectives.
Image, Adjust, Selective Colors, drop down box and pick Cyan and slide the bottom (black) over 20% and do the same with the Blue. Adding up to 20% at a time keeps it from falling apart getting noisier.

I like the silhouette. Very nice with the illuminated clouds in the sky.
Don't know if you were looking for what the implement is, but it seems to be what we'd call a "hay mow" around here. (not entirely sure about the last--horse-driven scythe, about the same thing, I think) |

Here's my re-editted version with bumped up saturation, noise reduction and diiferent crop. I think it's an improvement over my original. The holoing you see in this isn't nearly so predominant in the print version. It's due mainly from the resharpening I did after reducing to 640 x 427 px.
