I recently acquired a flahs head with softbox and all. What a difference it make when shooting indoor. I was always struggling to get a decent shutter speed to avoid camera and motion blur. Now I can get 1/500s ISO200 f/22, and I am not even at full power.
Here is my favorite photo of my first flash photo shoot.

What do you think about the lighting? Is it too flat? What about the photo in general?
Personnally, I really like the mood of this one.

Personally I think the lighting is pretty good. I think the cropping might be just a touch too tight on the left.

My 2 cents.

Thanks. Actually, it's not cropped at all. I have a tendency to zoom all the way in. I should back off a little.

It is a decent shot. The softbox will do wonders! I LOVE mine. For me personally, I like a little more dramatic lighting. This is a bit flat. But don't take that badly, its just a personal preference! Keep shooting and experimenting. Nice start!

What flash head did you get? I'm thinking in a 2 pack of b400 alinenbees.

I'd say the lighting is a little too even.

I got an Aurora Genesis 400w/s flash head (Aurora Lite Bank). It's quite nice. I especially liked the pyrex flash tube dome protector since I am disassembling the flash head after each use.
I was looking at the Alienbees too, but importing it to Canada would have bring the cost close to buying local.
