I don't think it's illegal but I think it would be much more creative to do it without the grain filter.

Adding noise is listed as being acceptable for basic editing (see details of basic editing) , so it must be for Advanced as well |

Adding noise is legal in both rulesets.

That's virtually impossible for normal subjects with a 20D. Even at its noisiest, a full-frame image reduced to 640 pixels shows virtually no noise. The only way to do it would be to crop like crazy...

I realy wanted to enter this one, perhaps with a little more work, but I'm becoming extremely sensitive to people complaining they recognize my subjects, so I'm posting it here instead and outing myself so I won't be tempted at the last minute :-( How does it look to y'all?

Oh, just commented on the image itself. To be honest, I had no idea it was yours. When I click on a thumbnail to comment, I don't look at the name until AFTERWARD.
NOBODY will guess MY grain. bwa ha ha ha ha ha.

I hope we see some color shots in this challenge. It seems to me converting to sepia or B/W then adding noise will be the norm for this challenge.

Naturally I took this a day too early. I think it's grainy and it's in color...but it would probably be another 5.1 anyway. :(

Don't let em get to you Robt!!!! If you don't enter the challenges it means you're letting 'them' win, and more importantly ...taking a creative and always interesting (often out of the box) shot out of the challenge arena!

I was just playing around with grain on this one. I think it went ok, first time playing with grain really.
Yeah, hopefully there will be some color grain. |

Take a look at my profile, challenge entries :-) Ring a bell? jejejeâ¢
Not to fear, people, it's not that I'm not entering; I'm just not entering this shot. And oh, yeah, mine's a color entry.

And now that the challenge is in voting stage, I think that 80% of the photo's just have added grain. No message with the grain.

Mine, which is not entered, has no added grain. |

unfortunately, with such a small size of image, the most noisy picture that I produced was still not grainy enough to have it seen natively. so I added grain, so what? the challenge was to use grain as a tool to add to the feel of the photograph. As long as that function is performed, why does anyone care how it was achieved? |

Not sure I went with the right shot for the challenge, these were two outtakes...I have a third, but it is too close to my entry to post. Which of these two are better? |

They're both interesting, but I also think they are too "busy" for the grain to have any impact. The grain isn't adding anything to the "message". JMO.
