i'd go with the second one. i like the 3rd one but the shadows in the middle of the photo pull my eyes from the trees.

I like the first one the best, but I would straighten it first. |

I like the third best, but there's a problem, IMO, with #'s 2 and 3.
The first tree on the right has a glow around it, possibly from over-sharpening?? Does anyone else see that? If it's there in the first one it's hard for me to see it.

Yep, it's leaning to the left, need to make your hoirzon horizontal :o)
I also agree that the tree to the right has a noticeable halo in versions 2/3 and somewhat even in version 1.

I will agree with everybody, not sure where the halo is coming from...the first picture is just b/w...the 2,3rd are justed burn, dogde, sharpen...can't figure out why the halo is so bad on the tree...
thanks wavelength for the comments.... |

Yes, that's right. I use Microsoft Digital Image 10 which has a "Straighten Picture" tool built right in. If you don't have a similar tool in your editing software, try manually rotating the picture until the horizon line is straight. You may have to crop the edges after you've fixed the horizon.
Generally, a horizon line that is tilted less than 10 degrees is considered a mistake. Another general rule is that the horizon line should not split the frame through the center.
Although in this shot the horizon line is through the center, the symmetry of the trees is the strongest visual and so IMO it's OK here. As long as you like it, that's what matters!
I did a quick edit to show you what it looks like as a straight line:
If you use Photoshop, there is a good tutorial on straightening horizon lines here.
Edit: typo.

Is the horizon a downhill? #'s 1, 2 and 3 are all angled the same. The one A1275 'fixed' now looks like the trees are leaning right. Just IMO.
P.S. I like #2

Glad to help. As a side note, if you look closely at the winning images on the home page right now, you'll see that most of the ribboners placed their horizon lines in the top third or lower third of the frame. The sole exception is the one by ursula, and she has a very strong foreground element in hers.
I took an extra minute to place your horizon line in the lower third, and was surprised at how much better the tops of the trees stand out while preserving the canopy effect. This was accomplished by cropping out some of the trees, solving the halo problem from sharpening as well.

I like the middle one best, or this for the bottom one? Rotated left 0.5 degrees and cropped the bottom.
