Given that my score in the current reflections challenge is tied with my lowest score ever I thought some encouragement might be in order for myself and others who might be in my shoes.
Post your worst finish ever in a challenge, the challenge title, and what you were thinking when you entered it.
Here's mine...
Challenge: Wooden

What I was thinking: I wasn't! It was only my second challenge and I was attempting to be creative.

Thinking... um I don't know if I can claim I was. This sucker is still acting like a boat anchor to my average. |

This is a good thread
I wasn't thinking circle, at least something that was perfectly round.
It has become a joke around our house when my wife and I don't see something the same way, one of us pipes up "Where's the circle?"

So I am sitting home watching the NASCAR race and wondering why no sexy women or a woman of any kind answered my post on craigslist for a model since I am such a hunk and a prolific photographer when it hits me like a ton of bricks "Hey I'm nude!"
In the words of one commenter, "Sometimes it's better not to enter." Well now I know that. LOL
In the words of Judy "Laugh at yourself, everyone else is" or something like that.

P.S. The feet being blurry was not a mistake, I have ugly feet.

The challenge was "At The Zoo". And like most on here, I just wasn't thinking. I didn't really have anything come to mind, and so I finally went out and shot this. And it is horrible. Oh well.

I'm due to get my first grades ever with What? challenge. I think I was thinking along the lines "I really got to submit something this time, I've been too lazy for too long time already" and shot something in the last minute.. and well, it sure does show.
My currently worst score is from the "Glitter" challenge. The submission was my second on DPC, and I think I'd do a lot better (with the same setup) now. And, I have to admit, I really was thinking. :p

My worst score:
I was thinking "why is glass so hard to photograph?" (My original idea was to have the beads spilling out of a jar, which wouldn't have been amazing, but much more interesting than this shot. But the light reflections were killing me!)
My worst finish:
I was thinking "I really like the lines and depth". But the depth in real life didn't translate as much as I thought it did. And it was a free study challenge with lots of amazing shots. I learned you have to up your standards a bit for the free study challenges. |

Beverages entry titled Don't Cry
I was thinking that I didn't want to shoot a glass full of something to drink. I think part of the problem was that people in other countries don't know the expression "don't cry over spilled milk", and part was the shot itself. I used the best of about 200 shots--I just couldn't take any more. |

Definitely my beauty entry. I definitely wasn't thinking when I entered this shot. I was majoryly tired and had a horrible headache when I edited it. The white balance was way off (Which is why the deer has that purple on it! The comments crack me up because I think they thought I intentionally added the purple look!) and it's out of focus. I was going through that stage where I refused to skip a challenge even if my life depended on it.

challenge: rock,paper,scissors..score:3.98
what was I thinking...hmmm. I was thinking that I was just getting back into photography after 15 years of barely touching a camera(and all those were just snapshots of my girls)I was thinking "photography isnt THAT hard"...i can make a great image for my first challenge. all i had to work with was natural light and a on camera pop up flash. got a few rocks and painted faces on them( never noticing that the one rock looked more like a cookie) set it up as a birthday presents. getting a rock person for your birthday is a southern thing i think so alot missed my "message". I have learned sooooo much since april and will continue to do so!

Even a brown ribbon would be nice. Alas, it was not to be. Close, but no cigar...
I was really frustrated at that moment, maybe a little angry...Who knows...

This was photo I took before I saw the challenge, and made myself believe that it could fit the challenge.. ya it was a stretch.
ohh well, don't enter if you have to convince YOURSELF that it fits the challenge.

Destinations 8%
I went out with the camera determined to take a shot of my daughter trying on wedding dresses for her special day. Only trouble was I was so emotional that they all turned out really badly, couldn't see through the tears and failed to take any notice of my settings! This was the only one I could salvage and stupidly I carried on with my idea and entered it!
Sorry Leigh - You really did look beautiful and this picture doesn't do you justice!

Billboard, 4%. Bad, just plain bad.
Orange, 4%. My excuse...it was my second or third challenge entry and I was new and stupid. Learned a lot from it though.
Both are my lowest in %, and lowest scoring. |

I never expect anything i shoot to do well here (uh expect shoes lol)
but this was part of LINMU, it was an abstract nude & and angular study. It was taken from the view point that in real life, nudity can be pretty blah. This is the kinda nude that walks around the house doing laundry. Not the kind you pin up in a car garage. I happen to really like the image. |

Two bad things happened with this one:
(1) I was desperate for an entry and couldn't find anything. Found this old accordian in my garage (didn't even know I had an accordian!?) and said "Oh, hey, THAT's old...."
(2) Decided to experiment and use Picasa2 (this is before I switched to Mac) to edit instead of Photoshop. I list this as #2 because a pig is a pig no matter how you wrap it - I doubt PS would have magically fixed it. |

Complexity... now in my wee mind, I thought that sinking a shot in miniature golf was complex. At least for me anyway. ;) I took a ton of pictures that day when I took my kids out to the golf center, and we had a great time. I was experimenting with odd angles and all kinds of shots, and I truly liked this one. I guess I shouldn't always do what the voices in my head tell me to do. ;)

My worst. I don't think it's THAT bad. Whites are overexposed. Lacks the wow factor I guess. I don't know... |
