For all you photoshop gurus...

I'm opening a file, and trying to clone, and nothing is happening. It worked a few days ago, and I'm assuming I've managed to change some setting but I don't know what it is. At first, I did it on a layer, so I tried it with a different picture SOOTC and still nothing. What am I missing? I need it soon for the Grain challenge.

HELP

Thank you

Check and make sure that the layer you want to work on is the active layer.

Yeah - this happens to me often and it's always the same problem that doctornick has pointed out - I've selected a layer that has no pixels.

And I keep doing it........

I did check
I even tried it on the original (no layers at all) and still no luck
Can do adjustments (levels and stuff), just no spot stuff, no healing brush, cloning, dodge, burn...

edit: spelling

maybe if you just reset the default settings that will fix it? I would try holding down the ctrl-alt-shift as you open CS2 and let the defaults be stored and see if that gets you back working.

Still no go :(
Shutterpug, I'm not sure I restored my default settings. I tried what you did, but it still isn't working

Open an image. Go to layers menu and create a new layer from background. See if you can clone on that. If the answer is "yes", then I think I know why.

Nope, nothing, zilch, nada. Tried it on different layers (and made sure it was the active layer) tried it right after opening it (no layers), still nothing.

Are you in quick mask mode? Draw a gradient - see if it comes up in b/w or in pink?

What are the settings for the tool at the top? Have you been able to clone before?
10/23/2005 12:51:15 AM · #10
I'm not in quick mask mode (I don't know how to use it)
Gradient comes up black and white
For now, settings are mode: normal, opacity: 100%, flow 100%, and I have the aligned box checked
Yes I have been able to clone. My model for my nude entry was very happy I could clone to make him a little bit thinner

Click use all layers - try it even if it's one layer.

Ok, sample all layers is checked, still no go.

I have to figure this out by tomorrow night at midnight!

When this happened to me it was related to the tablet I'm using. There are two modes, one that recognizes the mouse and one that doesn't. The mode that doesn't recognize the mouse expects you to use the pen.

If you're using a tablet this might be it.

I'm not sure from what you say that you tried what I told you to try. It's frequently the case that the original, base layer gets locked, and then you can't clone on it. If you make a new layer from BG, that one won't be locked, and you can work on it. I do this as a matter of course anyway; I NEVER work on the base layer, and it is ALWAYS locked. There's a preferences setting somewhere to set base layer as locked by default. I set it long ago but I can't remember where it was.

Bear- Actually, from your mentorship threads and tutorials, I automatically make a duplicate layer to lock the bottom one so you always have a default.

However, cpanaioti got it. I had to remove my mouse for reasons that are lnog and boring, and for other long and boring reasons, it's now plugged into a different port and it's not being recognized, but my tablet is! woot! Problem solved, I use my tablet for the spot editing

Thank you everyone for your help

Cheers

Yeah, it does. And let me use this opportunity to lay to rest that pernicious myth that "bear has all the answers", which has always embarassed me; I didn't have the answer in this case :-)

I didn't read all the thread but the same thing happened to me. I was doing a quick edit and rather than do it with my tablet I used my regular mouse. I kept trying and trying but nothing seemed to be working. I decided to try the tablet at this point with it's mouse. Long story short, never use your tablet as a place to store your mouse if you plan on using you regular mouse for editting. The tablet mouse overrides some of the regular mouse's functionality when engaged.
