I need to give the parents something tommorow and I didn't really like the shoot... but this may save it ... any ideas ???

by the way this was the first chroma key that I did for a (paying) customer. At first I really didn't like anything from the session... but in playing more ... I think that it could be okay.

I didn't take the time to fine-tune the selection, and the color choice is exceedingly arbitrary, but consider something like this maybe:

Select for white background, fine-tune selection, set foreground color to something in the general range youw ant (you'lla djust it after).

Make a duplicate layer from BG, load the selection on it, and run the gradient tool at "foreground-to-transparent setting from lower left to upper right. You could also play with circular gradients etc. Anyway, lay down the gradient.

Now make a hue/sat adjustment layer and throw the colors & lightness the way you want them, then fine-tune the effect by adjusting opacity of the duplicate layer.

Personally I like the original white better. The red shirt really pops from the white background and the other shirt acts like a mediator between the two.

Might still be worth experimenting with the gradiant, but I think I'd still prefer the white.

Sure, that's valid. He was looking for something to do with it though, the white BG seemed to be leaving him dissatisfied. The technique is an interesting one. An obvious direction to explore would be to shift to a bluish hue. Maybe even a neutral gradient. Plus, as I mentioned, possibly a circular gradient.

Only suggestion I have, would be to make each successive layer a bit darker, makling it look like faded progression to full color.
The furthest back shot faded the most, with closest faded version being the darkest. Sort of a faux movement look coming to the camera.
Just an idea.

Thanks all ! I very much like the idea of bringing up the levels on the background layers ...

The gradient... I will play with and see if I can get a cool look ...
