I'm another late starter, but I'm willing. Count me in. (Started in late July)

Go ahead and put me in; gotta have someone to hold down the bottom of the list...

If you haven't gotten 25, I'll volunteer.

Who's this really for the Cadillacs of the group? Just another can of worms to me. The Pro shooters will be on top and it'll fizzle out eventually. If there's a way to isolate groups it might work but that's tough.

Are you going to average it by the number of challenges entered? or do the frequent flyers inhabit the top o' the food chain.

I can be a middle of the packer if averaged by the somewhat scanty numbers entered compared to many here. Count me in if it doesn't skew your results.

i'm in if you haven't gotten to 25 yet! :0)
er... that is

YES! ;0)

Oooo- this would be good to make me shoot more too! stop worrying about the score & do it to learn! (noticed 0 points for not entering!)

Sounds like a fun experiment, but I'm much choosier now about which challenges I enter...for a variety of reasons. Therefore, I don't think I'd be a good candidate if it's just adding points for each challenge. I'll be watching though!

From january the 6th until now, with no entry in the challenges now being voted on I have:

43 points in 16 challenges.

That's an average of 2.6875 points per entry.

how about if we calculate the ones from this year (of which i suck poorly) and start a new one in January???

FWIW, I proposed a "point system" a while ago in this post during a discussion about how to break-up challenges in two groups, "newer users" and "more experienced users". At that time, I wrote up some code to make it easy to see how many points a user had, although the actual algorithm differed from what I originally posted. The point system I used was:

1st place: 10 points (major win)
2nd place: 9 points (major win)
3rd place: 8 points (major win)
4th place: 6 points (major win)
5th place: 5 points (major win)
Top 10 percent: 3 points (major win)
Top 20 percent: 2 points
Top 30 percent: 1 point

A message is printed if the user qualifies for "Challenge" status (has at least 3 major wins and 25 points based on all challenges entries).

Click here to access the calculator.

Wow Eddy that is impressive. I was thinking the system needed to based on percentage figure.

Awww, I'm bummed I'm not in the 25. Oh well, here's the stats since my first entry on 7/15/2005 (3 months ago)

34 career points in 13 challenges (2.62 points per submission)

Qualifies for 'Challenge' status (has at least 3 majors and 25 points)

Not gonna be the best, but I think not the worst either...

EDIT: sorry, that was with Eddy's system. Under the proposed one it's 47 points.

A lot better than mine:
127 points in 58 challenges for 2004 (2.19 points per submission)
89 points in 47 challenges for 2005 (1.89 points per submission)
216 career points in 105 challenges (2.06 points per submission)
Qualifies for 'Challenge' status (has at least 3 majors and 25 points)

Cool calculator!

84 points in 25 challenges for 2005 (3.36 points per submission)
237 career points in 79 challenges (3.00 points per submission)

...and then there's Heida...

96 points in 17 challenges for 2005 (5.65 points per submission)
327 career points in 82 challenges (3.99 points per submission)

And yet, my dismal record still puts me in the same category as you and Heida and BradP? That seems kind of wacky.

1 points in 2 challenges for 2005 (0.50 points per submission)
26 career points in 22 challenges (1.18 points per submission)
Qualifies for 'Challenge' status (has at least 3 majors and 25 points)

Well, your UserID is 70... =]

It was much easier to "earn majors" back in 2002 when challenges had only 25-50 entries.

The point scale should probably be normalized based on the average number of entries for that year (or something).

I just implemented it as a "proof of concept" to validate my suggestion in the thread I referenced...

That just means I've been here for a long time, not that I've actually done anything or improved at all. :)
