...and not just any action will do! I am trying to find an action or plug-in that creates frames/borders that look like the ones surrounding the photos on this website:

www.patgreen.com

The top pic of Pat has the look I'm wanting to be able to recreate. If you click around, especially in Media>>Photos>>Band, you'll see even more examples of what I mean...it looks like an old polaroid or slide or something, but I really like it and have a couple of ideas for some things using that sort of look. Any ideas?

I've browsed a lot of sites and can't find something exactly like what I'm wanting and thought I'd ask if y'all could give me some direction. Thanks! :)

That's a pretty cool website. I like how it's not just a static page!

Given that the "aging" of the frame doesn't change at all as you click on the various pictures in the "Band" gallery, it looks to me like it was "hand designed" in Photoshop once, and then it is just stretched to fit the desired size and then flipped or mirrored for some variety.

For example, on the home page, notice the "brown spot" in the corner is in the top right instead of the lower left, but it is still the same basic frame over and over again...

That being said, I bet DreamSuite would probably get you close if you really wanted a plug-in, especially since their edge-effects can be "stacked". And the advantage there is that because the frames would be programmatically generated, you could tweak the "Variation" of each effect (basically the random seed) and make each frame look unique instead of like a copy of one frame like on the Pat Green site.

Photoshop doesn't have anything that will do that? I can do that in PI easily either using the frame command or the path command. I would think you can do it in PS.

I am sure it can be done...I just don't know how to do it. ;)

I don't have PS installed on this system (at work) but at home I do...can check when I get there.

have you tried looking in the HELP file for PS to see if anything is there that would lead you in the right direction?

That would be entirely too easy...I am lazy and want someone else to do all the work for me! ;)

Actually, I can make the frame....I just can't give it that "look" it has on Pat's site... and I have no idea where to begin to replicate it. I'm just hoping someone else has something similar or some ideas for me to use. :)

I have a plugin loaded here on this system from Alien Skin that does it. I just tried it and with a few minor adjustments produced the same look.

Strange - I just looked on their site and didn't see it. If I can get it extracted from PI I can send it to you. Seems it is bundled with PI when you install it. I would need to do this at home though. I will try this afternoon.

FWIW, I just spent a few minutes with DreamSuite... I combined "35mm Frame", "Crackle" and "PhotoDepth" and came up with this...

That looks good, Eddy! I will have to just sit down and mess with it the old fashioned way this evening at home. If I come up with any good results, I'll be sure to share! Thanks for the ideas! :)

I must say, that website is some real tacky crap. Perfect example of how to overuse flash when a spot of css would have done the trick. And don't get me started on the idiotic frames... "omg i'll make it look cool by pasting a cracked border round my photos, that'll make it seem like i'm not such a lame unimaginative photographer..."

Thank you for your input. This wasn't a request for critique of that website. Start a new thread for that kind of thing if you want. I guess that's why I want to recreate the frames myself, to make me seem like I'm not such a lame unimaginative photographer too.

Oh don't worry i wasn't just throwing out a misdirected attack at the first thing i could find. You didn't ask for critique of his website, but you expressed desire to copy his style. I was merely trying to (not-so-subtly) hint that replicating this guy's effects might not actually be that good an idea. Trying to help out a friend, as it were. No offense intended, i think i've had too many tequilas this evening.
