Does anybody know the avarage life of a LiIon battery, i.e. how many times can it be recharged. Do I need to buy an extra battery to the one that came to me with the camera?

I'm on my 3rd battery in a little over one year. I would suggest having a spare backup available (cuz they're not always easy to find or cheap). I recharge mine all the time and find that they eventually begin to lose their retention capabilities.

EDIT: I'm referring to a lithium-ion battery...
