I connected a SanDisk USB 2 card reader to the iPod. The iPod responded with 'unrecognized device'. I believe that whatever you connect to the iPod must have it's own power source. The iPod is not capable of powering a device like a standard card reader. |

the only device I have seen use the iPod as a power source is the itrip which plugs into the top of the iPod at the remote port (next to the headphones).
...but for the iPod to even recognize a device was plugged in is interesting...hmmm

SInce I dont have a laptop, I'm gonna be using the iPod when I go on vacation or a long trip. Since its possible to use the Belkin reader on a 4th generation iPod, maybe I'll get one of HP's 40GB iPods for less than 300 dollars. Seems like a better deal than the ipod photo 20 GB for the same price, except you cant view the thumbnails.

Yeah, per this article, the 20gb will become 40gb and the 40gb will become 80gb but the prices will remain the same. So hang on a few days before you buy! |

you wont be able to view the thumbnails from your uploaded shots anyway. from what I understand of the iPod photo, the images are sync with whats on your computer and iPhoto does all the resizing on the computer so the photos fit on ur iPod screen.
you might want to check that out first though, as i have never used the iPod photo...

forget ipod and using a card reader. Creative Zen video has a built in CF card reader and an adaptor for most other card formats.

I have a 30 gb ipod photo. I have been waiting for this kind of device. They came out with the 60gb ipod right after I bought mine. For the difference in price I wish I had bought the 60. I love my Ipod but have not used it for photos yet.
Now I am ready for the cable that goes between the camera and ipod while you are shooting. I want to bypass the cf card and go straight to the ipod.
I will probably buy this belkin item. Did anybody buy it and use it? |

When it isn't taking 12 hours to load (as it is for me now), Ipod Lounge is a good place to go for reviews of the various adapters, how fast they are, etc. |
