I think ASSUMPTIONS can hurt.

It is an assumption based on some strong evidence.

I agree! Also this one, useful in quite a few threads. :)

Hey thanks for removing your comment from my photo.
Could you please go back and appropriately name it to :)

Greetings from the Critique Club

(USELESS comment removed by author)
See here

wish I would have seen your comment, but I never got an email stating someone had left a critique club comment on this photo.

Oh well, probably wasnt worth reading anyways. The stuff you have now is much more helpful.

Well, I was going through the CCC's reading some and came across a bunch of them as 'comment removed etc...' They had a link to this thread which I did not see before, and just wanted to let the people who are doing this know, that it has had a negative effect on at least one person (2 if you count the poor guy that didn't even know the critique was there). I'm sure there are many more that this is affecting. I will admit that I have removed one comment before and left the 'useless comment removed' not on it because the guy started a public thread stating how worthless the comment was 'because I didn't like the subject'. If he found it THAT insulting, then I figured it would be a benefit to remove the comment.
However, simply not marking a comment helpful might not be bad enough to warrant removing it from public view. EVERYONE can learn from the comments. That's what I was trying to do, and poof...comments gone.
Anyway, not telling anyone what to do, but rather stressing one persons personal experience with this 'trend' so that others my learn from MY experience.

jumping in here as well...

fairly new to DPC still.. but in my experience so far:
Sometimes I dont even see the new comments till they have been there for a couple of weeks on my older pics.

I fly for a living and often dont have access to computers on the road.. would hate to come back and find a comment removed that was unhelpful if I had never had the opportunity to see it in the first place

AND.. this is the big one... a huge part of my learning recently has been browsing other portfolios and reading ALL the comments others have left to improve the picture. I'm learning and seeing things that I never would have noticed before.

I've gone back on some photos I commented on when I first got here and ADDED to what I said prior.. as my knowledge expanded and I had the words to articulate what it was I was trying to say in the first place.. but nahh I dont think I'd remove a comment

Thats just me and my experience so far.. so as someone trying to learn.. i'd rather hear what people have to say as their first gut response as its usually spot on. (on my pictures as well as others)

Lovely, just lovely. I must admit this is the first time I've seen this thread. To the OP, I have just this to say:
If the photog has not found your original comment helpful, then what is driving you to spend more effort to actually change it? If you're changing it to something truly more helpful, then your motivation is clearly to help, but changing to "unhelpful comment removed" says something unflattering about you.
There are many reasons why someone might not mark something helpful, all but one of which are NOT personal slights against you. Why don't you try doing something POSITIVE for the site, instead of tearing up the record of comments made.
Have you thought that the comments removed may be helpful to others who see them?
