I just got a G2
woooo
I'm so excited!!!

Thanks to Froober Kavey and BAMartin :D

Now to figure out what all this manual stuff actually does, after wanting it for so long!

It's a thick instruction book.

If anyone has any special tips or tequniques I'd love to hear them because right now I am a complete newbie.

Alright, welcome to team G2! Congratulations. I know how exited I was when I got mine. I've had mine for 5 months, so if you have any specific questions don't hesitate to e-mail me.

My #1 tip: take lots of pictures and have fun. Start with the automatic mode, then start playing with the other functions. I found the user's manual pretty easy to follow.

one thing that I didn't know at first that helped quite a bit when I found it doing macros and stuff like that. When you hold down the shutter button halfway and the box is green in the viewfinder your shot is in focus. If it is yellow it isn't. Once I found that out it helped quite a bit to tell if I was in focus.

Congratulations Ben! Read the manual and play with your camera. In a few days, read the manual again. Then in a few weeks read the manual again... There should be something in there about keeping it away from flames :)

Warning to all... Ben now has a REAL camera! God help us...

What kind of a thread title is this anyway? ;oP
At least you know that you're in good company as a g2 owner, huh?
I hope you got a lot of memory to go along with it.
I have a suggestion maybe. My lcd is getting really scratched. I read once that you can cut down some sort of palm pilot screen cover to prevent that. Anyone else know what kind to get?
You might also consider getting some sort of lens adapter (lensmate is good) and UV lens to prevent lens scratches. I don't use it at home, but I do when I'm out and about - taking the camera in and out of the bag, putting it up against glass, etc. I just don't like getting the lens dirty and having to clean it a lot anyway. Maybe I'm just not careful enough, huh?

I would suggest turning off the digital zoom. I played with it for awhile and compared it to `computer zoom`. Computer won...

Well, it is too early for Christmas... Birthday present?
Or a "Thank You" for our Christmas Caps? (thanks :)

Congratulations! We now have a G-2 linked to a mind that takes pictures of the inside of a washing machine. Lord knows what`s next...
