He has some great shots. Seems like genuine person from his profile too. Makes me want to travel and take pics for a living. That would be SO nice.

Ken Rockewell has a wealth of info on just about everything. I've perused his site mainly for nikon lens information - hugely valuable! Plus the how-tos.

And he's not a shabby photographer either :)

Boy, there's a galvanizing remark if I ever heard one. Who are these "Canon people" anyway? I thought we were all photographers...
Yes, I OWN a Canon, two for what it's worth. I don't "HATE" Ken Rockwell, but neither do I have a great respect for the guy. He often presents information in a less-than-unbiased fashion to support some argument, and takes a very condescending attitude toward those who would dare disagree with his conclusions. There are far better mentors, IMO, such as Norman Koren and Michael Reichmann.

Fritz - I have to LOL. Those are both Canon people. Are there any Nikon people who could be mentors?

With that said I know Rockwell is a pretty controversial guy and goes off the deep end sometimes. But he also has come good info to gleen.

LOL! There is a wonderful Canon / Nikon contest on these pages almost daily. Try looking at some of threads on which camera to buy. It is mostly:

"Buy the one I have!" "No, buy mine!" No, mine is better."

Bottom line is a good photographer can give you good information as well as questionable opinion. It is up to you to decipher it. It happens on both sides as I have read artilces that are very Canon-centric as well as Nikon-centric.

Moral is, read them all and make up your own mind.

Exactly why I try to emphasize that we need to get beyond the concept of "Canon people" and "Nikon people" and realize that good, solid unbiased information is just that, no matter where it comes from.

Agreed.

And I should not add to it even if I'm only teasing. But you have to admit it gets pretty funny around here when someone askes aboout an entry level SLR.

BTW - I see you upgraded. I'm jealous.

He does great work. I have seen his stuff in a few Traveler mags. I like his style of using noise in some of his stuff.

Deannda - go for it. I see an Olympus in your near future (as I rub the side of my head and seek knowledge from beyon).

yeah I did a seminar with him over the summer. The noisy shots were either done with high iso film or with a D70 with the iso cranked all the way up. Interesting technique.

Hey! My D70 puts off a fair amount of noise at high ISO. Maybe I can get as good when I grow up. LOL.

We are... It's acutally interesting to see this written here today. I participated in a long conversation about it with another friend today.

Ken Rockwell may be a good photographer, but he's also too much into 'politics' when it comes to the art of photography. If Ken spent as much time on his photography as he spends on these 'politics' he would be a much happier person :)

Right. And then buy Nikon. :-) There are multiple articles that go on to say that it really doesn't matter what equipment you have, as much as how you use it. Sound familiar?
