Is there anyone here who is involved in low-budget films?
I'm working on an idea and don't know where to start.
I would love to have someone to bounce ideas off of, as well as links to the best forums for film makers. Please post here, or PM me.
Thanks,
Roxanne

My ex-husband and I have shot several shorts, entering them in various contests and festivals over the past 15 years... he's planning a new one next summer. He's not much into computer forums so I can't help you there, but I can try to give you as much help as I can. :)

Don't have personal experience with this but I have sold books on line from time to time. And I remember a couple of books were about your question.
Try ABEBooks.com and do a search with key words "low" "budget" "movie" "production" and you will get a list of books on that subject. |

A good friend of mine is a study of film making, he's shot a couple of shorts, I'll try to get some contact info for you. Also, I have written a couple short screenplays for him, and have several in the works (hehehe). I could try and answer any questions you have about that aspect of it :-)
feel free to pm me if you want to know anything

Thanks everyone. This is exactly what I was hoping for. I will be PMing you with some questions.
I am writing a storyboard and a narrative, though I'm an average writer, at best. I have access to a pro digital video camera, but don't know how to use it. What I do have is a compelling subject and inside access to the people involved.
Beyond that, I've got to find collaborators who can film and edit. Oh, and finance (of course). I'm hoping that someone who is in the loop can educate me on how and where to find these kinds of people.
This would take place in a very small midwestern town with a very big problem. The subject matter has been addressed, but I think I can give it a different angle. If done well, this would be a very marketable project.
I welcome everyone's input. |

So you're actually shooting on digital video and editing digitally, not on actual film...I misunderstood. The film shorts we have made are on actual 35mm film, which is a whole other animal. We have done probably 100 video shorts during college (both he and I have degrees in video production) but that was from 12 years ago and I'm sure video has changed dramatically in that time. Still, I would love to answer any questions you might have and help in any way possible. :)

Thanks Laurie,
I'm thinking digital only because I have access to that camera; and the editing options are enticing. I'm not ruling out film. The truth is, I don't have a clue about that end of it. All I know is that it's a compelling story and I want to do something with it.
I'm looking forward to getting your input, and will be contacting you very soon.
