I'm sure that in the past I've saved files as .psd and the complete history palette has saved also.
Now it doesn't.
Am I imagining it or have I inadvertently altered a setting?

thanks for your continued support and help.

I believe I've also seen PSD files do that, but, if so, it was with an older version of PS. I just tried it with CS2 and it didn't save the history, and I couldn't find any way to make it do that either.

There are several options for saving the 'History Log', which is basically just a text description of each edit, but I don't think that is what you're after.

Maybe someone else will know how to make it do that. Good luck!

Missed version 4 of photoshop. But as far as i remember in all the other versions the history was not saved. I may be wrong...

Well, if it doesn't do it, then it should. :) I think it would be a very useful feature.

This actually comes up quite often, but the unfortunate answer is, the history can't really be "saved", if by saved you mean retaining the ability to go back. that woiuld make the file size grow beyond all reasonable bounds. You can, however, log the history as a text file, and then at least you've got a record of the steps. Useful for challenge entries!
