Is this dust on the sensor causing the black spots in the photo?
If so, what is the best way to get it off?
You might need the pic to see huh?

Yes, that's sensor dust. Here is the cleaning method I recommend.

Something to try first: put it on sensor clean, turn it face down with the lens off (of course), and use a hurricane blower (manual bulb blower) to blow the hell out of the inside.
So far, in just less than a year of ownership (well, 6 mos each of two different cameras since I upgraded) I've never had to swab my sensor--I've been able to clear the dust with the blower.
I bought pecpads and the swabbing stick, but later bought a sensor brush "clone". I've still not had to use either.

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna try one of those baby snot suckers to see if I can blow it off til I can get some eclispe and a swab thingy.

A "baby snot sucker" will likely not do it. You need to get a:
Giottos Rocket Air Blower - (Large)
and I agree that you should not start with cleaning the sensor. I have had my D70 for a year, over 8000 shots, change lenses often and have never cleaned it. I do, however, blow it out often.

Something else to consider, confirm that it is sensor dust, by taking a photo with another lens, and check to see whether the spots appear in the same place. I had similar large spots, turned out to be ON or IN the lens....
I actually took the lens right off, and took a photo, but I guess that actually puts you at risk for more sensor dust.
