Before I advise someone the buy Photoshop Elements I need to get some things clear, I cannot find them in the Adobe information.
Some of the most important basic features I like about Photoshop (version 6) are
* Levels / Autolevels
* Curves
* Histogram
* Unsharp Mask
* The ruler & arbitrary rotation combination
* The cropping tool
* The History Window with fast undo and redo

Could somebody tell me to what extent those functions are available in Photoshop Elements 2, are they accesible in the same way or is it all preview thumbnails and select the one that you like.
Or is better to advise another package (in the same price range or slightly more expensive)?
(I don't need advise on good deals, because it is for somebody in the Netherlands, but feel free to tell others who might benefit.)
Levels and USM are a must have actually.

Paint Shop Pro has them all. I use elements only for the the constrained crop.

However if your person already knows how to do photoshop or another program relearning another can be a pain. The One you first learn tends to be the standard that you judge all others. At least psp has a free demo so they can check it out.

Elizabeth: I am interested in your comment. I use psp for all my work, including what I consider to be a "constrained crop". Am I missing out on something?

I´m a teacher and I also have an educational business where we teach Photoshop. For beginners in digital photography and beginners in webdesign we use Photoshop Elements 2 and for more advanced classes we use Photoshop 7. But personally I think Elements is quite enough for a start and for most digital work in the beginning.

UHHHH hmmmmm oops I think I garbled that. I was refuring to Ps lite actually and the selection tool that you can program for a certain proportion. That is not what is in psp that I know of. Yes, you can tell psp to crop to a set dimention, but not a proportion, ie. 3:4.

I also wish you could move your selection field around on the background level instead taking the extrastep to duplicate a level.

The only other fault I have found is that it seems PSP is not as good as PS for compressing for the Web.

That asside I adore my PSP.

I have PSP 7.02, PS 7.01, and Corel photopaint 10. I much prefer PS 7. When I have a question there is always an easily found answer for PS.
