I browse deviantart every once in a while and last time i came across This guy's gallery. Feel free to click on that link and be amazed like I was. What striked me most were the vibrant colors and strong local contrasts giving incredible detail to the pictures. Especially the colored city, architecture and landscape shots. All he ever comments is that he adjusts tones and contrast, but does anybody here have a clue about what he actually does?
Feedback much appreciated
And on a side note, anybody have a good explanation/tutorial on Photoshop's USM? |

If you're referring to the Unsharp Mask, there's a tutorial in the 'Learn' section - upper right coner.

By adjustiing tones he might be refering to dodge and burning, some of them are in duotones but other than that, be is just really experienced with curves (adjusting the contrast/saturation).
People like Heida right here on DPC are getting the same effects (more intensity) with pretty much just D&B and curves, so i dont see any reason why it would be different for this fella. |

Ok... so USM got a bit clearer, but anybody got more comments on the vivid colors? |

Hue/saturation, levels, curves, selective color ΓΆ€” plenty of people getting that sort of drama in here too, using those tools. It's not that hard to do.

It also takes lots and lots of practice. |
