I was looking at an original 300D image and when looking at the advanced EXIF data in Photoshop, Irfanview, etc. the 300D reports:
3072 x 2048 pixels
tiff: XResolution: 180/1
tiff: YResolution: 180/1

Looking at an original image from the 350D, set to same parameters (largest, high-quality jpeg) it reports:
3456x2304 pixels
tiff: XResolution: 72/1
tiff: YResolution: 72/1

Any ideas? Are these real DPI resolutions?
I looked into the Camera Data 2 subfolder and see the folowing differences:

300D X & Y Resolutions again at 180
Compressed Bits/Pixel: 3.0
350D X & Y Resolutions again at 72
Compressed Bits/Pixel: (blank)

I'm don't think it matters what the DPI is in camera. The only way it could matter is if you are printing directly from the camera, and i've never done that so I don't know if that's even it.

As I understand it you can keep the pixel count and vary the DPI without changing the quality of the picture. The DPI determines the size of the printed image , and the quality of the print you will get at that size.

Guess some of the confusion comes from looking at what Photoshop displays when looking at
Image, Image size:
300D: 3072x2048 - 17.067 x 11.378" at 180 Pixels/Inch
350D: 3456x2304 - 48.000 x 32.000" at 72 Pixels/Inch

Mostly a DPCPrints issue, as larger printable sizes are recommended at 300DPI. Maybe DPI and Pixels/Inch are not the same thing?
Can change either image to 300 Pixels/Inch, becomes HUGE, then resize back down to original dimension, and then reports at 300 Pixels/Inch, seeing no difference.

All that matters out of camera is the pixel dimensions. Dpi/ppi is meaningless until you start sending print commands, and even then you will be setting that yourself.
