so as i'd mentioned earlier today in another thread, i completely spaced on the time and missed out on submitting the fruits of about two hours labor. oh well...
in that thread i promised to post the photo. please pretend this is the entry and tell me what you'd vote it and leave a comment... just for fun and the growing of my "skills of an artist" (as strongbad would say)

It's really good. How did you get the image ? I would have given a 8 at least.

Very interesting, I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to enter it. I'd probably give it a 7.
Hm.. on a completely different topic, thanks for reminding me I haven't been keeping up on my Strongbad email. Better check that before LOST starts.

! Strong bad rocks !
now back on topic
Ok I like the shot, very nice but do have a few comments
It seems really abstract as to not allow someone to tell what it is, it almost looks like water droplets sitting on top of a liquid metal like mercury or gallium. Because it is so abstract I probbably would not rate it well. I do enjoy abstract photos but not so much in a theam competition where the subject may be a distortion of the theam, like alot of the shots using water as a bubble. When I look at a shot in a competition I like to be able to put it in a context. So a 5 or a 6. |

Very nice! I had been thinking to do something along the same lines, since I like abstracts and I figured there would be a lot of bubble in the air shots. But I never took the time and did the shoot.
I like the colors and simplicity. Hard to say how I'd score it, but at least a 7, probably an 8.

I like abstracts but this isn't particularly interesting to me. It's got nice elements to it (color, clarity, lighting) but I'm not interested in it. I'd have given it a 5.

great shot. I like the duotone effect very soothing image. I am partial to abstracts (most of my top picks are) so I would have scored this 8 or 9. sorry you didn't make it in:) |

thanks for the comments. anyone else?
and for those who asked: the blue is dep hair gel. the yellow is honey. smeared a bit of both on my wife's hand mirror (yes, i cleaned it, both before and after the shot...)
camera was a nikon d70 w/ tamron 90mm di macro lens. sb-600 w/ lumiquest ultrasoft was fired wirelessly and in this shot was sitting across the mirror from the camera (i think). f25 for 1/60th @ iso 320. post was a slight crop, some sharpen, saturation and levels using the smart photo fix in the new paintshop pro x.
i liked how the mirror gave more depth and doubled up the blubbles in the gel. i tried to get bubbles in the honey, but they wouldn't hold very well...

thanks... i've actually done bubbles in honey before and loved the color i got. i use the gel everyday, so it really was a no brainer to try it, but it was really boring on it's own.
here's the old honey bubbles pic for those interested. it was taken w/ my old nikon coolpix 2100
part of what i like about this photo is the brushed metal of the dish it was in...
