Heida's pictures seem to have a certain "look". I've always liked this style (before her as well) and wondered if it is lighting or post-processing. The portrait here is an example...
I'm guessing it's processing because this landscape has it too
Any tips on achieving this effect? |

If you dig around in this thread you can find one example of Heiða's editing.

Sorry didn't mean to jump off topic like that. Yes I agree with you on Heida's lighting it looks to be her post processing. That thread that incarlight put in is pretty good she showed what she done to her fantasy entry.

I think you'll find it's a mixture of both. Even if a lot of the impact comes from post processing you still need to start with a good image. |

In Photoshop it's under Image --> Adjustments --> Heida. I usually use 70% opacity.

It's ALL "vision" in the end; she sees what she wants to get out of the image when she exposes it, and realizes the vision in post-processing. Pure photographic artistry. NO way I can believe she takes a hundred slaphappy shots and then manages to "rescue" one with PP. NO way. She's a determined artist and I applaud her.

I don't know about the overall effect, but I'd imagine that many of her cloud shots, like the one DrAchoo posted, and the Angel shot, she used a selection of the sky copied to a new layer, and then applied some gaussian blur and used multiply blending.

I doubt anyone is going to give away their editing secrets, especially ribbon winners who have obviously found a winning combination of photography and post editing.
LOL Dream on. |

Think again...she's actually shared her editing on her Wooden entry in which her "Fairyland" photo won the blue ribbon. Follow this link in which she goes through the entire editing steps one by one and shares *everything*. Of course, it's specific to this image, but basically she just used lots of layers in different blending modes and did a lot of dodging and burning.
