can I take a photo from the waist up? or from the floor up? or from the roof up?

I think you can, as long as the subject is way above you, it will have an impression of being shot from the ground.

Darn, I entered this shot

in the "Perspective" challenge which just finished. Perhaps I should've saved it for this one!
