sorry to lure you to this thread if this is not what you expected to see :)

This is another rendition my Branch entry - even more extreme on the graphic side than the original

What do you think? Can it be called photography?

I rather like the black-and-white version (except for the 'jaggies'). I find it much cleaner than the colour version.

I gave a high mark to the colour version. I think it had one of the most excellent colour backgrounds I have seen in a basic editing picture in a long while. I would have given the B&W pic maybe a five or six. There is nothing really spectacular about it. It is just a picture of a tree with stark branches that could be anywhere in any circumstances. Everything that makes the colour picture so special is absent in the B&W

The colour version jumps at you in a way that no B&W pic ever could IMHO.

Thanks! I just made it a bit less jagged by more careful BW conversion...

Some people will not like to call this photography, because everyone has their own definition of what is "real photography." Some people don't even like others to adjust colors and contrast to clean up an image. Personally, I think if you used a camera to help create an image, then of course it's photography! You may be mixing some digital art with photography but photographers did similar things long before Photoshop.

Unfortunately I took this picture after the challenge deadline, was wondering how it would've done.

I would have given it a 7. nice sharp shot.
I tend to like trees as you can gather, not everyone else does though :)
