I know artsy stuff doesnt' normally score well here in DPC, so I hesitated to enter this in the destination challenge. Any comments or advice?
Thanks a bunch.

I think you should've entered it. |

I like it. It would probably have been butchered because of the out of the box very overblown whites though. I would probably have scored it 7 or 8, depending on the quality of the other entries.
Edit: looked at it again, and really think it IS a bit overblown ;) so 6 or 7 then.

I agree with ajschel might not score well because of the over exposure (see my shoe entry comments) but I am partial to outside the box so I would have scored it a 7 - I like the capture and the title. |

I agree that it probably would not have scored highly. However, I do personally like the shot. (You can see my High Contrast entry comments too! LOL)

I like the idea, but think you went a little too far. If you had more detail on the train (smaller aperature, Neutral Density filter, etc..) I think it would be much better, and still maintain the aspect you like about it. |

well, honestly - the original is a big smear. The train was going by - I thought, "OH my, get a slower shutter speed and catch it!" (not knowing my manual settings well on my digi, more used to a SLR manual, I was a little rushed and frustrated) I got a barrage of smeary pics that were unpleasant period. So, I took some time to fiddle with PS and see what I go - this looked like an artsy pic that someone out there might enjoy so I kept it. :)

I like the treatment, actually, and I think it works with the particular composition you chose. Bottom line, if you like it submit it and don't worry about the scores. Someone may comment and make observations that will enlighten you in ways you did not anticipate. That's the real value, not the score... but it is very hard to take those voting lumps sometimes, LOL!

The highlights are too blown and I don't appreciate the gravely empty space in the bottom right corner but otherwise it could have been quite good.
Get a little closer to the train, stop down your aperture a bit (because the shutter speed looks good) and perhaps tilt the camera to the right a bit to get the motion blur lines going a little more diagonal...nice attempt, though. |
