So, I am gearing forward to take a piece of the pie in my market as a sports photog.

As far as pricing, I was thinking something like so...

4 hour minimum per player or team.

3 hours of shooting within the 4 hours, following the player, or team to practice, and games.

1 hour of editing.

$200

Includes 20 basic edits of pix client likes, over 300 pix (including edited pix) burned to dvd.

Prints, Mattes, and extra edits would cost extra.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

wish i could help you, but i'm not sure what market you're going after.

are you offering something like personalized yearbook photography?

sounds like an interesting idea, but nobody's around here is doing anything like that. most of what is being offered here are action-shot packages at events. you show up and shoot the action, and either print on the spot or sell them online.

What skiprow said is what is done here, too (and my brother does some of that, mostly hockey tournaments to date). I've seen video done as you suggest (teams pay to have games and/or practices videotaped).

Yeah, I've seen the on sight thing as well, but that seem to be alot of unnessisary (spelling sucks)work.

I am trying to focus on individual athletes per the parents, or the team per the coach.

I am trying to let the client decide to print, or burn more dvds. I would just concentrate on the shooting and editing aspect.

Across the board sports, nonspecific.

I will give the option to get prints, but not as a selling point.

Most of the people I know who have tried hitting the high school sports market have ended up making about $3-$4/hour at it, after they take in to account all of the additional work/ promotion/ equipment etc.

I'm not convinced anyone is really making much money at it, other than as a sideline to a more complete professional business that generates portrait sales. www.sportsshooter.com is a good site with a lot of experienced people in this area.
