Bamaster, in what context do you foresee an image of a boob? You think there is a Wonderbra Designer in our midst?

*lights incense and begins to chant mystically*

1, 2, 3... visions of deep come to me...

I see a mother showing her boob, the giver of life to her new child. I also see an exotic dancer illustrating her finance generator. Ohhmmmm.... I see a anti-pornography lobbyist making a political statement by showing us the wrong in boobage. Lastly, my inner eye has shown me student who will gratuitouslty post at least one boob becuase it will boost his votes will the males.

So I have spoken. So it shall be done.

Oh, yes, i see! Had not thought of any of those possibilities. I guess you are way more boob-oriented than i am.

You say "student ....post at least one boob... boost HIS votes with the males". I thought only women have boobs. Now you guys want to have them as well? No way! Boobs R Us

how did this get from the topic of occupations to sex???....

anyway, i am a student.... and i work at target... hmm target could be interesting... now all i need is a white cat or dog and some red paint...

Do we have a Scatologist in the house? (.... another s-day at work! If a scatologist takes an interest in you, should you feel flattered or insulted?)

How about a Disgruntled Mailman?

How about a Spammer?

How about a Fiction Writer for Iraqi Weapons Reports?

and, of course, "Want fries with that?"

For those of you still in school and perhaps undecided what to do afterwards, a lot of "great" career choices have been suggested in this thread.

Regardless in what capacity folks here are on someone's payroll, they really ought to show a shot of this site, since that's where people are whiling their working hours away, it seems :)

I'm a student as well, of the university persuasion that is. Finals are this week (and the University is still open a few days after finals end), so I still have time before vacation. Hmmm, let's see...my occupation would be...books, beer, and women. The possibilities are endless! ;D

Sex??? Anyway, my response to Bamaster was all wrong as i was thinking of a self-portrait (very old challenge). I shouldn't post early on Monday morning; that's when my sole brain cell needs to be recharged fully.

I don't think I'll be participating in this challenge. My job is behind a computer and I refuse to take a picture of anything with a computer in it. I have a hobby, but it's not what I do most of the time... no one would know but it wouldn't be honest.

Some of my friends have interesting jobs but not me.

Actually, I have a rather lose interputation of this challenge. "Your Occupation" to me is "What occupies your time?" and in the detail when it says "what you do for a living" I read as "what you live to do"... If you don't live for money then whatever floats your boat seems fair game to me :)

I happen to make my money doing what I love to do, so I don't 'need' to have this free an interputation of the challenge. But I won't feel cheated in any way if an accountant submits a hang-gliding photo :)

Edit ~ Grrr... Even with spellchecker and a preview button I can't get it right the first try :)

I think this is the worst topic ever. Most images will probably be very boring to match most people's jobs. :-)
12/10/2002 04:30:35 PM · #33
Worst topic ever? Consider it the most *challenging* ever. As a photographer taking assignments (which is basically what the challenges are), it's your JOB to make the mundane interesting. (Which is not
the same as your ACTUAL job, which is merely to DO the mundane).

Mark

I hope the "non-job" photos won't get ranked down for not meeting the challenge by people who seem to this the topic is "Job".

I think this is maybe the coolest challenge yet! I'm gonna really love this one

Well, Kon, the challenge is called "Your Occupation" and it uses the expression "what you do for a living." Both of these are standard synonyms for "job." Therefore those people who "seem to think the topic is job" are on the right track. (I recognise there is a second sentence in the definition, but you seem to have forgotten there is a first sentence there, too.)

ok ok ok ok .. I am not american .. and I see the sponge bob every week in some forum .. I guess it must be a fondamental aspect of the american culture ;-)
What's that .. I know I could look on the internet ...
Maybe a sponge bob challenge ?
Can you find a sponge bob outside US ?
COuld DPC2 send us a sponge bob marked DPC as a marketing Items ?

As far as 'Your Occupation' I am a computer guy and I admit I have no idea how to do a nice picture with it without stretching the challenge and I do not feel doing that now !

So good luck guys ... Hope somebody is a sponge Bob maker
Kavey : You're welcome to sent me a sponge bob picture taken with the Dimage 7i ( I miss a smiley with large teeth like in the dpc chat)

Why shouldn't they get ranked down for not meeting the challenge?
I think every shot that doesn't meet the challenge should be very ranked down. (Just for not meeting a challenge)

Whoa, I think Kon's point was that not everyone works so what do you want us to do about it?
Do you want us to lie and take a photo of someone else's job just so that we meet the challenge or do you want us to take a "non-job" photo of what we really do and get "very ranked down" by people who think that doesn't meet the challenge??
I agree with him. I don't think the topic title is particularly fair because it does suggest "job", and people without one are at a disadvantage. (I don't think the second sentence in the description does a lot to prevent narrow interpretations.)

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!! I'm not sure I wanna see that picture! But, I think anything will be good as long as it depicts an occupation. You don't have to actually do it yourself. Don't take it so seriously. And don't feel bad if you don't do that job yourself. Who is going to know, and who cares.

Personally ... I am not doing it, if it's 'an occupation' but not mine, I would feel I am 'cheating' so I am not doing it.

OK. No biggy. Do what you want. I wasn't suggesting that you should violate your morals. But for people who are not so uptight, have at it.

This is exactly my point.

Just because it isn't a photo of a job it does not mean it doesn't meet the challenge. The challenge description also says that if you don't have a job to take a photo of what you do the most.

People will probably however, get in their mind that the photo must display a job, and vote down the photos that do not depict one.

Thank you kendall for proving my point!

Who would be stupid enough to think it had to be a job if you dont have one, when it clearly says "OR WHAT YOU DO MOST OF THE TIME"
Are you telling me that isn't clear enough?
Do some people here really only read 1/2 of the challenges?
this is a great challenge. for jobs and hobbies, what could be clearer.
Thats why i didn't know what Konador ment. Now that i know what konador ment i agree fully. that would be very stupid for people to down rank photos for not being a JOB when it meets the challenge. And it is very sad and unethical to post other peoples jobs as if it were theirs full knowing that it is not their job or hobby (Fruad)
Thanks Konador for clearing that up for me.

Thats fruad and cheating. and it's cheating the people that go through a lot of work to meet the challenge. It makes me feel like not submitting cause some people are saying it's OK to cheat on this one, cause they feel that the dchallenge might be too challenging for them. Then the real challenge met photos will be down ranked cause of how challenging it is to get a great one. Sure, I could come up with some mind blowing photos if i could cheat, but if i cant cheat, it wont be so mind blowing at all and maybe down ranked for it

Then perhaps a photo of a locked gate or door, signifying the security and secrecy that surrounds your work, would be appropriate. Wouldn't have to necessarily be your company's gate or doors. (They might not appreciate that.) Just one that dramatizes the security. Mebbe a large door to a walking safe, etc. Just a thought.

For you students who are away from campus... What do you study? What are you learning? Perhaps a photo representing your major, or goals would be appropriate.

Seems to me the toughest would be a mind reader....

Once again the literalists have decended upon us...

The challenge says... Take a photo _REPRESENTING_ what you do. If you are a software engineer, does it mean a photo of you at the keyboard? NO! The whole idea of art is to be creative. If you design video games, must you show a picture of a video game? Do you need to show a person playing a video game? You make fun things, which happen to be video games. You are making entertainment. Seems to me people having fun would fit. Catch the expression on their faces. Accountng software. Counts money right? Pictures of money, people counting money, surrounded by money, think people.... think! Architectural software, you are helping to create buildings. Is there a building that was designed using your software? Or buildings in general that your software could design?

Engineers, God Love 'em, are great people. They just don't get out much. No matter what you do with a computer, some where it flows out into the real world. Ponder that, and then go take its picture.

Remember, it's called a _Challenge_ for a reason. Otherwise the site would be known as www.dpEASY.com.
