I might try to make my way over around that time but my schedules aren't nearly clear. I'm ending a project around the end of October but no exact date yet. I'll keep up with this thread and see if I can squeeze in there if possible.

London is very affordable if you stay away from those $180 cab rides.

I'm hoping that I will be able to attend :)

By any chance is there enough interest for a South-West GTG?
09/06/2005 07:29:13 AM · #28
OK, I've added you both to the list, but not against any particular dates (unless you have specific ones in mind that you could attend?). As for a south-west GTG, start a new thread and see if anyone's up for it :o)

Umm.. what's GTG an abreviation for.

What's the general format for these meets? Get together and take lots of landscape/cityscape photography?

Your description is pretty much right.

So get together and take photos of ANYTHING? :)

Well, we generally try to wander around a different area each time, but you're welcome to take photos of anything you see as we do so. Plus we're always open to suggestions (beforehand) of where to go and what to see, if there's somewhere in particular you'd like to shoot.

As a person with free will, I don't think that anyone could stop you taking photos of whatever you wanted to!

Is there anywhere I can see photos from previous GTGs? I'm just curious :)

I live in London and I'm free on the dates listed :)

Here's my (very extensive) sets of photos from the last 3 GTGs in London:

London GTG 3 (Camden)
London GTG 4 (Greenwich)
London GTG 5 (British Museum)

Should give you a rough idea of the people and the places :o)

Oh, and I've updated the initial post again...

Are we any closer to confirming so that I can add to my diary?

PS - Kew Gardens is always a superb venue.

*bump*

29th Oct is looking the most likely so far, but I'll leave it for a few more days yet.

Richmond and Kew are great, but October/November may not be the best time to visit them. Will try to think of more possible venues.

Southwark?

Hoxton Square area?
How about the city - it'll be dead on a saturday.

Or could just do the West End covering Covent Garden, Leicester Square and other touristy areas

For 29th October I suggest a night shoot. We've been talking about this for a while and it's just as good an option as any. Besides, who could resist a shot of the House of Parliament at dusk with the streaks of light from passing cars??? ;)

Good plan. Plus the London Eye (my favourite) from the same bridge. Have they fixed the bridge yet (last time I was there, the HoP side was boarded up and the lights on the HoP tower nearest the river were not functioning).

That is a fairly easy walk from Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden areas.

*bump* Anyone else interested?

A night tour would definitely be fun, should the weather be favourable. I'll look into the permit situation with regards to City Hall & the Eye (since the security guards get antsy if you don't have one at night, so I've discovered)...

Really?? The view from the other side of the river/Westminster Brdge is pretty good. But I am astonished that they might contemplate getting stressed with photographers near a tourist attraction!!! Don't know what the world is coming to.

They've got issues with people using tripods, since that's how they seem to determine if someone is a pro photog or not... If you're on public land you're OK I think, but the areas immediately around the Eye & City Hall I think are privately owned, hence they arsey security. Shouldn't be too much hassle to investigate how they do permits, and even so, I doubt they'd mess with a large group of us ;o)

Pretend to be a lawyer, it spooks the hell out of people.
