There are plenty of other splash shots that have scored well. I'm sure you'll be able to find photographers who can give you some tips. Check the favorites page and scan the photos. You'll find a few quickly. |

OK, so they're not as easy to find as I thought. Still, there are a few out there. First one's the same one Polly found.

The setup photo shows the color paper as the background, with two flash units set to light the background, synced with the camera. You could probably do the same thing with a few bright work lights or floods directed at the paper backdrop. That's how I'd do it. |

it looks to be partly the bowl itself.

wow, with all this information there should be a DPC mentorship on Water Drop photos. lol, i see how in the tutorial they used paper as the background, but the pic im looking at is taken looking into a bowl it looks like, so could it be a clear bowl with paper and color bubbles on the bottom under the bowl you think

The color just comes from whatever is below the container that holds the water. Water is transparent and so will show whatever is under it. The ripples caused by the drop causes the distortions that make the background more dynamic. |

A little off the topic. But it seems that the number of views for that picture is stuck at 65536, i.e. some type of integer overflow. I really notice the strangest things.
Cheers

The background looks identical to a vase I have, that has mottled spots all over it, made by a Polish artist. I love that picture. I used it for my Rubber Ducky example that never made it in time to the submission deadline because of a power outage.
The artist is Mariusz Rynkiewicz. The url I have for him doesn't seem to exist anymore, sadly. He had a glass display of items at Costco here in Kirkland once.
