Interesting read about Ansel adams:

[ YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, California (Sept. 12) - Astronomers have pinned down the exact time and date that renowned photographer Ansel Adams snapped his ethereal picture, "Autumn Moon," and have determined that the sun, moon and mountains will align in the same positions on Thursday.

The Texas State University astronomers, who have earned a reputation for nailing down historical dates and events, reached their conclusions after poring through celestial history, plotting lunar phases, building a special computer program and calculating shadow angles.

They concluded that Adams snapped the shutter at 7:03 p.m. on Sept. 15, 1948 -- not in 1944 as was long believed.

Yosemite National Park officials expect a crowd of photographers, astronomers and Adams aficionados will gather atop Glacier Point, California, to relive the scene that Adams captured. The scene repeats every 19 years.

"It's interesting that astronomy can do this," said Matthew Adams, the photographer's grandson and president of the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite. "And it's great that there's this ongoing interest in Ansel. We're planning to go out and see it for curiosity's sake."

"Autumn Moon: the High Sierra From Glacier Point" depicts a gauzy moon hanging in the darkening sky above the jagged peaks of the Clark Range in California.

In 1994, the "forensic astronomers" led by astrophysicist Donald Olson pinpointed the moment Adams shot his famous photograph of the moon rising over Half Dome in Yosemite Valley. ]

In the message window, the second to last button is "insert hyperlink." Use the URL of the original thread and link it with that button.

I posted something about this myself a few weeks ago, but I can't locate the thread.

Check out this link at Sky&Telescope's website. There is a great article in the current print issue of S&T.

Assuming they have the place, date, and time right (which I believe the do) there will be a number of photographers there to try to duplicate AA's picture.

Just one note, only ONE will be able to stand in the exact same place at the exact same time to take the picture. So out of all the photographers there they will be only one to accomplish (atleast) taking the picture at the exact sames. Hope he/she has the angle right....

I wish I could go and enjoy the event and I know all that does go, will. But I thought about that (no matter how many is there only one can snap the shot at the same time and place) and found that to be interesting.

So where's the photo? How do I know if it's worth re-taking if I can't see it?

Now, if that one person could only manipulate the billions upon billions of other factors, large and small, that made that particular moment in time unique...

...then they'd probably forget to insert the CF card and still miss the shot. :)
