it's that time again! rich terrell and i had a blast last year, and we're heading back again this year. mark your calendar now and post here if you'd like to join us.

saturday, oct 1

animals, food, rides (including a helocopter tour of the area)...it's an absolute all-day shootfest! come on and join us!!!

yes it is! an easy drive from just about anywhere, as well as being accessible by air and water ;-)

Hey - Can you count me in? Would love an excuse to meet some fellow DPCer's.

i'm a little swamped at the moment, but in the next day or so i'll be able to post up some discount ticket information, etc.

no kidding, folks, if you like shooting outside of a studio, outside your backyard, this is the place to do it. there is everything you could want to shoot--candids, lights, action, animals, kids, food, colors--the list is endless! all you need is lots of memory, batteries, and comfortable shoes.

I wish I could make it too, but we're having the annual "Mountain Magic" festival in town that day and I will be one of the merchant/vendors there (selling my photography). :-( I'll be thinking of y'all though! Drat! Grrr... Damn festival...

With the family going we are looking at $96 to get in based on the State Fair website and gate prices...

this is shaping up to be quite an event!

in addition to probably being able to meet at least two dpc challenges, we will probably be able to have a few of our own:

* best candid shot
* best action shot
* best animal shot
* best fair shot

Any plan on where to meet up? Saturday is just around the corner. Gates open at 9.

I'm going to end up solo (sans family) as the kids, as usual, have several events to attend that day.

i'm going tomorrow afternoon, will scout out gates, good meeting locations, etc. if everyone/anyone interested in this could post back to this thread, i'll start pm'ing additional hookup info.

oh boy! just got back from a 'scouting trip'...whoever makes this trip will not be disappointed!

even though there is a ton of stuff to shoot all day (especially candids, animals, etc), the real deal starts just about sunset when the lights start coming on...OMG, what a friggen shootfest!

and it looks like linda and danny might be able to make it after all!

yeppirs, barry, it is upon us!!

ok, i've heard back from rich and barry, and i just got off the phone with linda--she and danny are both coming!

anyways...let's try to meet up at 1pm at the huge flagpole at the midway.

i would recommend coming in on either gate off laburnum or gate 6 off carolina. there are ticket booths there at that entrance.

so, go on and start charging your batteries and formatting your memory cards! yippee!!

Had a lot of fun at the VA State Fair, even though my time with Skip, Linda, and Dan was limited as I joined my family for most of the day.

My wife lost her camera (Canon A75), but the story ends well as a good hearted person found it and hung on to it long enough for it to find it's way back to us. Hooray!

It was fun watching the others shoot, and I have to admit I had a bit of camera envy with them slinging around those very nice DSLR's! ;^)

Anyway, I pulled a handful of shots that were ok and put in this VA State Fair 2005 folder if you care to take a peek. I held off on posting as two of them were used in challenges this past week.

ay-yi-yi, can't believe i'm just getting round to these...

we did have a blast. it was great meeting barry and danny, and getting to see linda again. great shots, barry, really love the ducks!
