How much did it cost to go?

I think we got tickets at a little over $200 a piece. We drove down from Seattle - gas wasn't cheap, but it was less than I was worried it would be. I think - I haven't added it all up yet.

Burning Man is on my list of things to do before I die. Of course New Orleans was too so hopefully I'm not a jinx.

Great selection of shots, but where are all the 'weird' naked people? :P

Well, even though it was my first time, when you are there "weird" seems normal (and normal seems weird) so I didn't really get a lot of those. My more or less complete set of photos is here: //www.schonbok.net/burningman/ but they are still pretty tame. You'll just have to experience and participate for yourself!

Joe, thanks for sharing that. I had never heard of it before (probably shouldn't admit that, huh?) and found it fascinating.
Lots of interesting photos and comments, thank you!

Nice photos Joe! I've been meaning to get down to one of these for a while now. We've been to Blackrock for LDRS (high-power rocketry). It's an awesome place. It's the biggest flat spot on Earth I believe.

Did anybody give you a hard time about taking photos while you were there? I thought they had some kind of restrictions on photography.

Man, I'd love to add Burning Man to my portfolio of festivals.

It is a very beautiful setting!

I didn't get any hassle - I wasn't there to take pictures. I had my little P&S and took snapshots every once in a while. I read that all video equipment had to be tagged. But I just now read the full "rights & responsibilities" about photography (still & video). I think I'm probably in violation of the letter of some provisions, but hopefully not the spirit.

I just checked their website and, near as I can tell, you didn't violate any major rule. You're supposed to get a 'personal use' tag for your camera when you arrive, but I don't think that's a big deal. I think they're mainly concerned with people who want to profit by selling images and video of the event. I believe they also want to have access to any photos and such for their own use. You may want to contact them to find out if they're interested in any of your shots. It might get you some exposure, and maybe even some cash.

A friend of mine just got back from this year's Burning Man. Pretty bad dust storms for a day or two, eh?

Are you old enough to know? lol, some people think it's a take off your clothes and run naked in the desert party. some think it's an escape or retreat, some think it's a place to let your artistic self free and experiment and some think it's a 1960's desert Woodstock. Hummmmm maybe all of the above are true, just depends on what you go there for ;)
