Hiya,
If anyone could leave some comments for my wife's newest picture on our blog, I sure would appreciate it. It's the one at the top from the carnival. She's very proud of it, and I'd like to get some people other than me to comment nicely about it. I'll try to get a thumb in here soon (done)
Thanks DPCers!

Not one out of 40 people. That's sort of dissapointing.

It's still early on a Saturday. Gotta give people time to have their cereal and get their thinking going. ;) |

I am not a huge fan of these long exposure photo's anyway, but even with having said that, it looks very busy. If it would give off that mood of cotton candy, and funnel cakes, and pot-head carney's I think it would be cool, but it don't. It seems more like the mood of a murder mystery novel or something.

Okay, I don't see that at all. And it's like a fall festival with a parade and stuff for Olathe, KS. Not many potheads would get along, so in that context it works I think. I guess though if you had the preconcieved notion that all carnivals have habitual carnies (and aren't more glorified craft shows with games, food, and rides like they are around here) you might see it that way.
This is actually from Old Settlers Days in Olathe, Ks. The carnival takes up 5 square blocks around the courthouse and city hall. I guess they made it this time of year because the people on the Santa Fe trail who came this way about this time of year stayed through the winter, and most times stayed for good. Leading to Kansas City actually having a population :)

I think the ride itself is awesome, a tighter crop to the spinning part would make this photo awesome

Here's a different version with less people and more closely cropped, but I don't think the pattern of lights is as interesting.

Listen I didn't mean that in a bad way. Maybe I should of just stuck to saying, that the moods contrast each other. Light hearted, fun, cotton candy, I think that mood is more justified here, but it doesn't come across that way, it comes across as dark, and mysterious. And aside from that its busy, way to busy. The reference I used above was only intended to paint that picture of goofy, and lighthearted, and maybe shallow, like we were when we were kids. Sorry if that offended, I genuinely take it back. And the parade sounds like a hoot of a time, something i would thoroughly enjoy. |

Oh, I wasn't offended. I just didn't get your comment. Thanks for explaining.
I guess we could go back this evening and try to get someone to sit around with some cotton candy, but we're already going to a hot air baloon rally :)

I like the second one best because when you first look at it the focus is on the lights. The first one I tend to look at the surroundings instead of foucing on the lights. But either way I think it is a great capture! |

Cool shots! I also prefer the second one. The spiral of the lights give it a better sense of the motion IMO, rather than a more confusing (but still cool) pattern of the first shot. The second one almost makes ya dizzy!
Tell your wife to post more of her photos here...we'd like to see! :0) |

I like the first one for the humans, but I think it needs less space at the bottom, and more at the top.
I like the second one for the composition, but it has too much light burnt out to single colour.
I think they're both very good long exposures, and create a solid shape out of light, but the shutter speed might have been a bit on the long side.
Yes, please show more! |
