What worries me is the final line of this report:-

and recalling Federal Emergency Management Agency head Michael Brown to Washington to coordinate the response to other possible disasters.

God help you if there is another disaster shortly as it seems he will be in charge of the response to that!

Please....show me the "facts" on this.

Dick Cheney received $400,000 since being in office from Halliburton. However, this was money pre-earned in 1999. He took it broken down into several payments. So he is NOT being paid but simply collecting similarly as you or I would from a pension plan or deferred payment plan. The money is at a lock payment and does not fluctuate (so whether Halliburton's stocks go up or down do not make a difference in this case).

Now some might point out that if Halliburton were to go bankrupt VP would stand to lose a substantial sum of money, thus posing a conflict of interest. So VP Dick Cheney spent nearly $15,000 of his own money to insure that payment. If Halliburton goes belly up it doesn't matter. VP Cheney will still receive the payment from the insurance protection.

As for all the profits from his stock options....guess who benefits!!!

(40%) University of Wyoming
(40%) George Washington U's medical for tax-exempt charitable purposes
(20%) Partners for Education - financial aide for low-income families

It's all these claims which is why people like me don't believe things like those timelines. Out of context the facts are meaningless!

theSaj, as I posted earlier, that document is filled with loopholes that allow the 2 people who signed it, Lynn and Dick Cheney, to make modifications to it without any approval of a 3rd party. And I also posted the question of why he has not cashed in any of that stock and made donations with it.

My sentiments exactly.

The Coast Guard has the training and experience to get the job done.

Anybody saw this? Dick Cheney being told to go f**k himself! It's probably not being aired (or even mentioned) on american TV since the Bush admistration have control over the news...

Hope the link works...

The report is in french tough... It's from Radio-Canada (french CBC) the second most trusted and accurate news broadcaster after the BBC.

I didn't say you are a professional photographer. I said you are a photographer.

As to plagiarizing the text; the formatting of the text (hard returns on each line) strongly suggests the text came from somewhere else. That's not something that normally happens on our forums.
In any case, my interest is not in accusing anyone of plagiarism. It's about being able to make judgment of the credibility of the source.

I'd like to hear more from both of you on your positions...grandmarginal, why do you say that the BBC is the most trusted news broadcaster. And David Ey, what's your beef with the BBC?

I love the BBC online for my news but that's because they have a very global perspective and the writing is good.

Did anyone watch the video? That's almost as funny as the last time Bush came to Canada and said: "I'd like to thank all those that came to the airport who were waving at me, even those who were doing it with one finger!"

dont really know who's to blame........ have you ever worked for the U.S. government? it takes them forever to do anything when it comes to their own people. i never realized how the government really functioned until I saw it first hand, pretty sloooooooooow. so much money gets waisted everyday and most people dont even know.

The actual quote was "I want to thank the Canadian people who came out to wave -- with all five fingers -- for their hospitality."

That's right! I remember now... I knew it was something along those lines... Shit! I guess I won't be hired by CBC or BBC for my accuracy! lol

i just recieved this email

You're in Louisiana. In New Orleans, to be exact. There is chaos around
you, caused by a hurricane and severe floods. This is a flood of major
proportions.
You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper caught in the
middle of this great disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You're
trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people
swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is
showing all its destructive fury. You see a man in the water! He is
fighting for his life, trying not to be taken away with the water and
debris.

You move closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. Suddenly, you know who
it is ... it's George W. Bush! At the same time you notice that the
raging waters are about to take him under, forever.
You have two options. You can save him or you can take the most dramatic
photos of your life.
You can save the life of George W. Bush, or you can shoot a Pulitzer
Prize-winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world's most
powerful men.
Now, here's the question (please give an honest answer).

Would you select colour film, or rather go with the classic simplicity
of black and white?

This AM I saw it on FOX. What do you mean Bush has control over the media?

That's good! I don't know about the choice of film, but I'd sure like to set my camera on self timer to get in the frame with both thumbs up and a smile! (I know, that's f**king mean... but the guy deserves it)

Well first of all I didn't say Bush had the control over the media, the Bush admistration. He's to too dumb to do... well, anything.

If you think that the all big coorporations that owns the networks aren't walking hand in hand, lobbying with the government to get deregulations allowing them to keep independent competitors off the air (wether it's TV, radio, big internet providers) and take control...

MadMordegon, back me up on this... Remember "Orwell rolls in his grave?"

It's true grandmarginal.
I highly recommend everyone watch "Orwell Rolls in His Grave". Though you won't find it at Blockbuster. Blockbuster is owned by Viacom and Viacom owns ALOT; just to name a few:

CBS
UPN
MTV
VH1
Showtime
Comedy Central
and countless local TV stations of all types.

Why you ask? Orwell Rolls in His Grave is a documentary that analyzes the American media system. CBS is part of that media system. CBS is owned by Viacom. Blockbuster is owned by Viacom.

Do the math...

Another example:
This is also similar to when Fox News killed a factual story about dangerous chemicals in consumer milk one of which was BST a bovine growth hormone linked to cancer amung other things. One in particular called Posilac. Posilac is used in 1/3 of US dairy farms. Posilac is made by Monsanto. Monsanto also makes a ton of different household cleaning products and other chemicals.

So, Monsanto got wiff of the story, told Fox if they release the story Monsanto will cut many of the commercials for its cleaning products which is a major source of revenue for Fox. So Fox killed the story.

This type of thing happens ALL THE TIME behind the scenes and is the #1 reason why Americans are so ignorant today.
