I'd give it 3-4. Sorry to say, I actually can't see whether that's a spider or butterfly or something in between. :) Single branch is to marginal to be considered as "branch challenge". And central composition doesn't seem to be a good choice. NHF, but good you didn't submit this one.

Stupid question.

How do I check scores?

oh.this message is for AJ by the way...sorry for rambling on and on.u probably went to sleep too.

Violetta - Some advice from someone who wish she had given herself the same advice years ago. DO WHAT YOU LOVE...if you love something, you will become great at it..and the rewards will come. This doesnt mean you cant have a job and still do what you love, just never give up on your dreams. Canvas all the photography places in your area and go for it. I unfortunately let someone talk me out of my dream when I was younger and without going into details, here I am 20 years later just starting out doing something I love to do. Life is short..live it to its fullest!

I'm getting tired of the box. I've behaved too well recently. It's time for another fish head shot pretty soon.

I would have given it a 6. I love the green foliage blurred in background and I love the clarity of the branch in the front. Nice and sharp. I love the concept of the single branch too!

Maybe they should have a challenge with any particular theme and then in the comments they could ask for EVERYONE to do an out of the box photograph based on that theme. Then we can vote down the ones which are the typical unimaginative ones? Personally, I vote up the creative ones, I love to see some thought went into the process, rather than point and shoot.

Went from 6.5 to 5.4 ...guess some low scores are coming in, but hardly any comments. I am going to go back through and leave comments after I've seen/voted 100% - maybe others are doing the same. Anybody have branch outtakes??

Of course, here's the kicker:

Person A: "Good colors and composition, but I just don't think these qualify as branches."
Person B: "HEE HEE What a fun shot. I like the perspective and the imaginative take on the challenge. Thank
you for not doing just a tree branch ! A for originality."

Person A either only read the title of the challenge and not the description or he/she hasn't checked the definition of "branch" lately. Why do I put myself through this?

I had the same thing happen in the shoes competition. Someone commented that there weren't shoes in the picture. The picture was shot from the knees down and there were only two subjects in the picture. A horse and my daughter (who had visable shoes on). It actually made me laugh ;)

Why are there so many super small images? Its really the only consistent problem I have seen in a lot of entries. If the image is 50 x 50 to 150 x 150 its to small in my opinion. Not totally voting low on these, but definitely not dropping one point depending on severity
09/07/2005 10:51:58 AM · #94
I agree about the smaller shots. Having a hard to voting on an image I cannot view in detail.

You're doing real good for a first timer!! I think it takes a while to get into the groove. I'm relatively new and this is going to be my worst one ever

I'm sliding faster than I expected. Think I'll go climb a tree.

Slippy - I'm ready for fish heads!!!!

Someone that totally had no clue how my entry is a branch gave me a 1.

Question.

The comments that I am getting seem to be related to the size of the submission. I grant that the pic is small but I had a heck of a time getting it down to the 150kb upload limit. How do you get a decent size picture posted within the limit?
