My first instinct was to go with b/w. But then I thought that with pp just about any picture could be converted into a high contrast b/w. Then I read what bear_music said and decided to go with a color picture that was exposed in a high contrast manner. Is seemed like more of a challenge that way.
But I have good news. My friend saved money on her car insurance! And the garage that has fixed her old car for 10 years just gave her a new car(actually it's a 1989 model) when the old one finally died. How's that for excellent customer service!

I ended up not entering, but here are three I was considering. I had quite a few nice shots, but I was concerned there would be a number of voters who did not consider these (and many color shots) high contrast, so I sat yet another challenge out. I had a 6.0+ streak going and I didn't want to break it :( But I'm going to have to try sometime again!

I'd love to hear some opinions on these. Anyone leaving a critique/comment on the image will get one back from me on one of your images.

Neil, I love your work. But sitting out a challenge because you are afraid it will score badly is, well, dumb. If you sat it out for another reason, then its okay. ;) Just don't let the voting patterns dictate your entries. Its not fair to you and its not fair to those of us that enjoy your work.

Good Day sunshine would have gotten a 10 from me. TYhere is a whole bunch of B&W images that are far from high constrast. I think high constrast is a lot easier to see in colour - and you dont have to blow out your highlights either :D

Thanks for your comments. You're right, of course, about it being foolish. But for me it's more of a game about being able to "pick winners" and trying to learn the audience. So sometimes I take a photo that I like, and I think should do well, but then I start thinking about the audience, and I say, it's not going to do well, so don't enter it. I am not bad about accepting a bad score when I get one, but as in any endeavor, you try to show only your best. Here the metric of "good" is score (though I prefer to consider rank placement and even moreso favorites).

I'd love to see DPC put up an open ended photo gallery where you could submit shots and have them anonymously rated and optionally critiqued. Sort of an open challenge, that never ends and is continuously rated. I think it would become an important outlet for me to test photos to see when they are liked. There are other sites that sort of do that, but none rate anonymously (which I think is important).

Thanks again...

nice pictures glad you showed them here...... I could understand missing a challenge if you had nothing or lived in New Orleans or any other reason..... but I could care less about your score untill I give you one.
