Ok...so i submitted this photo for the D&L challenge...

ampersand controversy aside, i received a few comments from people who decided to vote my photo low, simply because they thought my subject matter to be morally wrong...i'm assuming that many more voted this way since i received 21 1's...

unless i'm wrong, we're supposed to be voting on the quality of photo and it's adherence to the challenge, not our moral beliefs....If you don't like the subject, that's fine, but don't give it a low vote just because you don't agree with the subject....If you thought the lighting, angle, exposure or color was bad, then fine, vote it low....If you're not going to vote on what we're here to vote for, then just skip it with no vote at all...It makes no sense to give a technically good photo a low vote because it's of something you don't condone....I don't condone drugs myself...Never even tried them once in my life...But I thought it would make a gripping image in a photojournalistic sort of way...i do magazine layout for a living, and i guess it was that side of me coming into play.

and for the record, that's crushed up TUMS in the photo :P

I know there was many discussions about the D&L Challenge and the submitted photos titles. Looking at your photo I would hope, since there are no technical issues with it IMO, that the mark downs were more in-line with the title (d___ "&/and" l____) issue.

I know that I am disappointed in my showing. I have not done well in past challenges - I took advantage of dpc and have learned a great deal. My D&L submission was one of the best photos I have ever taken IMO. So, I was disappointed in hovering in the upper 5s and occassionally seeing a few votes drop it to the low-mid 5s knowing that could only mean 1,2,3s were being given. Finishing in the 60s was an eye opener - that apparantly I have a ways to go.

I'll continue to try to get better, and outside of a couple of comments regarding the leaf size...I don't know what could have been done to improve the shot. My guess is it simply is a matter of the style of the shot. BRAVO to the winners...great job all.
