Well. I will not be putting anything up for print, but you need buyers just as much as sellers, right? I will be going thru my favorite photographer list and requesting a print from each of their portfolios. Hope to see some others doing the same thing. That's a potential of 20 to 25 sales just for me. If you are on my list and already have prints for sale, I'll pick one of them or pm me with a suggestion.

Will we still sales in our store report? How are people doing? I've seen a lot more traffic but no new sales. It's a nice gesture to give the profits but not enough if we aren't selling!

I'd still like to know when my prints sell (one reason I haven't yet uploaded to the katrinaprints.com). Also, I'm considering 1:1 matching all my profits with a donation to double the benefit, as a extra incentive.

I'd also like to see some cumulative total on the site:

DPC Sales/Donations: $100,000,000

Perhaps even autoupdating like the number of participants!

Ok, dreaming on the number, but who knows... I hope some of you have seen increased sales!

May I suggest making a post similar to this on other message boards or communities you may be involved with:

Hi everyone,

I'm part of a community of photographers at //www.dpchallenge.com/ who participate in weekly challenges and have prints for sale online at a sister site //www.dpcprints.com/ . For the next couple of weeks many members have opted to donate money from sales to the American Red Cross to aid in huricane Katrina relief efforts; if anyone is interested please visit my gallery here: //www.dpcprints.com/profile.php?USER_ID=4285 . Thanks in advance.

Owen Russell

...this is what I used...

Hello,

Now through September 15th, all proceeds from my print store will be donated to the American Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

You may find my prints here:
//maxj.dpcprints.com

You may also donate directly to the Red Cross here:
//www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html

Thank you,

If it's all going to charity, it doesn't matter at this time -- and I think the generic site address looks less crassly self-promotional : )

question...

what happens to the money that had not yet been cashed out from the print store before this chrity drive began?

Oh yeh, I forgot about that :) But if they decide to buy a print that is not Katrina donated... does your extra referral credit if you're donating automatically get donated too? If so, the referral link is probably still a good idea :)

Hey D&L... would there be a tally recorded at the end to show how much was purchased and donated? Just curious to find out.

Drew/Langdon - please see my question below. Basically, I am interested in knowing if we will still see the sales in our account, or how else we will see how our own print contribution helped in the totals (which I hope we will also see somewhere!)

I see that I sold a photo after I checked the "Katrina" donation box. It does show on my sales report but I assume there will be a way to be sure that gets to the right place.

Thanks to the person who purchased it -- I am both honored and glad to contribute.

Congratulations on the sale and thanks for the info. So now the only question remaining is whether or not we will see totals--or better yet, running totals to see how we are helping! (I think it is really motivating and inspiring to see how many people have signed on to this. But it would be more inspiring to see the money adding up!)

I have clicked on the box, but how do I know for sure that I have been added to the list of participating fotogs?

All your prints will have a red cross next to the title.

Was away for the weekend, glad to see this excellent way to contribute implemented by the D&L gods... nice move.

My prints are now available to the fundraiser.

Is anyone else getting stick for posting the link?

Even after stating that ALL profits go to the charity I'm getting a couple of posts implying profiteering and commercialism!!!

I have said upfront that the idea is NOT to be an alternative to direct donations to aid charities but to give an additional revenue stream - people will have their own limit on how much they give to charity - and it's unrealistic to expect it to be their entire disposable income - but they might just be willing to give more of their disposable income on something they may have been intending to buy for their home anyway!

Just wondering what reaction you're getting at the places you are posting?

I think designating the profits for charity is fine. I can see how initiating a new advertising campaign based on it might seem opportunistically commercial to some people.

Somebody bought one of mine. Thank you for your support, who ever you are :-)

I must admit it never occured to me that people might see it as commercially opportunistic.

No one cares whose prints are bought. No one gains any monetary profit. No one gains any reputation from it either, not that I can see.

Anyway, it surprised me, is all.

EDIT: Decided it's worth it. Made one sale directly from posting the website address on a web forum and explaining the idea behind it. I know the person who bought the print - they had already donated generously to a charity of their choice. This was an additional donation which I think they have bought as a Christmas gift for someone so i.e. it's money that would not have gone to Katrina otherwise.

So I think being accused of profiteering is worth it (I have a fairly thick skin to most of it) if it means getting the word out to a few people.

I'm assuming they will show there for the moment until the end of the sales period. I'm also assuming that people can't just change their mind and spend those earnings in the meantime? Then again, no one here would do that anyways so it's a moot point. I'm just pleased to see a sale which means that there are sales being made and that money is being raised!

:o)
