I live in a country infested with the Betel Nut habit. This typically is visible as what appear to newcomers as blood spatter all over the sidewalks and roads. Oftentimes, a Taxi driver will spit his Betel nut crap into a disposable plasticcup over a prolonged period of time and then leave it sitting on the road somewhere for another car to run over and spray all over. Nasty crap that.
I got the idea of combining the colours of the plastic cup with the dead blood colour of the liquid inside with the tarmac of road with a motion-stopped splash pic. Then I thought better of it because it was so inherently ugly. I would imagine it could be done artfully though.
Hence I thought of suggesting an UGLY challenge, where a photographer shoots a subject that is ugly in an artful way to express something meaningful or capture something striking.
I suck too much to actually make it work as of yet and the idea of doing this pic still turns my stomach as I don't chew betel nut (mmm someone else's filthy saliva), but I may figure out a way in the future.
The idea may have merit though. |

I like it - although I'm sure the entries would really run the gamut, as everyone's idea of beauty & ugliness are different. We'd probably still get a lot of flower macros! ;-)

| Great idea for a challenge IMO. I would like the challenge description to be very vague and general... let's see what "ugly" means to different people. Should be a fun one to vote on. |
