The wording of the current poll, about comments remaining anonymous during voting, seems ambiguous to me. What's meant by comments? Those one makes and receives during the week of voting or the DETAILS one adds when submitting a picture for the next challenge? I read comments as meaning the details.

I always like to add my name and score when making a comment and find it a nice touch to see the name and score when getting a comment. Hope that remains a voter's choice.

As posted on another thread, I echo Journey's sentiment about keeping the voters comments showing during voting. This will discourage the malcontents who lurk around these sites.

On the other poll, how about a choice for allowing users to vote if they also leave a comment?

I believe the poll means to ask whether commentors are known during the week as opposed to the current scheme of Sunday night.

What's the big deal of having to wait till Sunday night before you can see who said what?

But likewise, what's the big deal of having it known what you said, if people are going to find out eventually anyway?

Some of us aren't very capable of holding our horses :)

Kimbly, i believe i worded it wrong. Meant to say since you're going to find out anyway by Sunday night, why can't one not find on Tuesday or Wednesday? :)

I don't have real strong feelings about whether or not somebody else sees my name associated with my coments prior to the end of voting. I'd like to think I'm fair and constructive. However, I certainly hope it doesn't evolve into people writing back wanting a different score while the voting is still going on. And... personally I'm just as happy not knowing who left the comment until the end of voting. If they want to ask a question, they can leave a name. If they wish to remain private till the end, I'm ok with that too.

However, I did not really care for the suggestion that a comment had to be left with each vote. There are what, about 245 pics this week? That is a lot of writing, especially if you are trying to write something that is meaningful as opposed to entering text to get a vote counted. I do vote on every picture, and I try to comment on all 1-2-3's and all 8-9-10's As a entrant, I'm not sure I want to wade through a couple of hundred forced comments. I'd really rather have the people who found something of note (good or bad) to write about.

For those who don't know, comments used to have names with them for the photographer's viewing until people took advantage of that for just the situation ambaker described. It's always hotly debated, and I'm sure we've never come to a conclusion about what's best.

I think for now, we'll leave them, and perhaps we'll add a note to that page about not e-mailing people with anything that could convince them to change their vote. If it's taken advantage of, we'll just make it anonymous again. Fair?

Sounds fair to me. I may ask for an e-mail to explain something, then its my problem. If someone e-mails me and pushes me to change my vote, it's their problem, as I might lower it if I look at the photo more closely.

I meant for non-paying users who want to vote on submissions to the members-only challnges. I was sugesting THEY be required to comment on photos they vote on. This was in response to the current poll as to whether users should be allowed to vote (rather than JUST comment) on the member challengs.

For the regular open challenges, I think the current comment-optional voting systm is fine.

I'm having bad memories of a week when we were forced to comment on a certain percentage of the photos. People can always just leave one word comments to get around a rule like that. If I decide to be a paying member, I'd vote for only members being allowed to vote on member challenges. Maybe then we'd have more serious voters.
