Hi! I'm hoping some kind peson out there will be able to help me. I've been trying to pluck up courage for some time now to enter a photo but I'm not sure what the best way to reduce the size to comply with the rules is. If I reduce the width to 640 pixels the overall size is more that 150kb and I'm not keen on altering the quality.

Check in the Tutorials section under the Learn Menu. There are tutorials on prepping files for DPC and on Resampling which will be most helpful.
There will always be quality loss in reducing the image size like this -- we all have to deal with it the same : ) |

Using the Save for Web feature in Adobe programs is how most of us do it. Lower the quality right under 150kb. |

If you use Photoshop, you can save for web... and play with the compression to shrink it to under 150kb. It does reduce quality a little, but it's not incredibly noticeable. It's a limit we are all restricted by so it's safe to say that no one will have an unfair advantage by submitting a "higher quality" image.
Edit: ooops.. too slow

Thanks - you've all been really helpful. I'll give it a whirl! I'm just a novice having just finished a City and Guilds course so don't expect too much :-)
