can't we all just get along?

But I thought we were getting along.

The horse sculpture in Williams Square won a national architectural award....but I guess you guys probably are a better judge of what is architecture...which probably includes it all.

Misinterpretation seems to be a problem with every challenge, but what can you do? Architecture is definitely more broad a subject than just "buildings".

Perhaps if the challenge category was "shoe", there would be no chance of someone thinking an entry didn't meet the requirement (unless of course it wasn't a shoe).

So a horseshoe would be ok? j/k

I couldn't let that just slide :)

It would be a shoe-in!

It is true. But have you noticed how few of the pics that are blatantly off-topic are really really good. That kind of makes it easier to deal with ; )

Basically my assessment of interpretation of the theme by the photog is reflected in my vote. Luckily I havent been confronted yet by an off-topic pic that happens to be an awesome pic.

I agree that some of the photos here don't fit within the traditional definitions of architecture. However, if you loosely interpret the definitions of architecture, you could apply it to almost anything. Without quoting from a dictionary, I would generalize the definition by saying that architecture is the design of, or the design characteristics of any object, whether it be man made or created by nature. Being able to loosely apply a strict definition allows some creativity. I'm not arguing that these photos you mentioned follow my loose definition of architecture either... I agree with you that some of these don't fit. I believe that I commented on those as I rated them...

I don't want to mention any shots, but, here's the simple definition(s) from dictionary.com:

The art and science of designing and erecting buildings.
Buildings and other large structures
A style and method of design and construction: Byzantine architecture.
Orderly arrangement of parts; structure: the architecture of the federal bureaucracy; the architecture of a novel.
Computer Science. The overall design or structure of a computer system, including the hardware and the software required to run it, especially the internal structure of the microprocessor.

Now go look at the submissions. There are exactly three shots that do not belong.

If your photo requires such a loose definition of architecture that almost anything will apply, then it has no place in a challenge where the point is not to allow anything but to restrict the photo in some way.

Are we hung in a loop? Sort of like your Bio Rube?
This horse has been dead three days now.

I'm not in disagreement with you. However, I believe that interpretations of the challenge topic allow for some interesting creativity. I do agree that the photos in question here are either not on topic in any way or the 'creativity' is so obscured that we can't see the fit....
