Here are 3 recent shots I have worked and thought they came out fairly well.

First, an old Ford truck. Desaturated everything except the red, and left a bit of blue as well.


This is of an old barn. Did a dodge and a burn layer, masked off the barn itself on both layers. Faded the D/B layers to somewhere around 5-15%


This is another shot of the same barn, from a wider angle, and desaturated everything, multiply layer, masked for the sky only. Adjusted brightness/contrast, and fine tuned with curves.

Is this too dark??


Any thoughts on improvement will be greatly appreciated.

the first one works well, looks like a shot from a calendar or something. the second one doesn't work too me for some reason, looks a little muddy in the details. the third one i like, although many would say it is too dark.

The first one is kinda cool. Using a ploarizer lens wold have cut that reflecton on the side window (may or not be a better pic that way).

Second one: again, a polarizer would have helped the sky. as it is, the sky is 'not there'. the pic lacks contrast, hence the 'muddy' comments. Try USM 30%, radius 60 and see what you think. Th ebarn itself is about a stop underexposed.

the third one is just too dark. the sky is getting there, but the rest is just dark - not dark enough to be a silhouette, but too dark for details to be seen.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

I would love to have a polarizer, I just got the dRebelXT about a week and a half ago. Once I pay it off, I'll be looking at lenses, and a polarizer is definitely on the list (just not sure what size yet)!

The sky in the second one...yup...I goofed. Maybe I'll see if any of the other shots I took have a better exposed sky and transplant it.

The third one...I can lighten it up and see where that takes me. I think I need professional help with my monitor, because the first edit was waaayy dark on my work monitor, so I tried to tweak my monitor last night, but enough comments that it's still too dark makes me wonder. :-/

Oh, and louddog: Yes, there are some interesting elements to that truck. I tried to capture some of those on my first outing with the 350, but had some **really** nasty blown hilights.
