I am looking to upgrade my printer to something that will print very nice photos that won't fade. I have a HP PS1000 now that does a nice job but the prints fade out quickly.
Any one using a home printer that they like and could recommend?

Canon IP 8500 prints 6x4 in 30 secs - provides fantastic prints and the colors are individually replaceable.

I have a Canon i960 and it is great. Never clogs even when not used for while. Has six different ink carts so you only replace the color that is out. And it is fast. Only downfall is it limits out on size, 8.5 x 11. I plan on buying the Canon 9900 next as it prints to 13 x 19 using eight carts. |

I like the idea of the 11X19 and have been looking at the Epson R1800 but I hate to jump into the pond blind.
Thanks for all the info so far,
John

An Epson 2200 user here. Use premium papers and plan on purchasing lots of mats and frames. The outcome is 1st rate.
Kodak professional lustre paper produces gorgeous prints.

I must admit I've never tried this paper with my 2100 (same as your 2200). I've always seen Kodak inkjet paper as crap! Perhaps I should try some? |

I have an epson r200 -- I like it because it was free, that's about it. I probably won't fork over the cash to refill the ink -- not when Sam's Club is $.16 a print!

Canon S900. I love it, except I should have bought the S9000 (8.5 x 11 vs 13 x 19). FYI - use of canon photo paper is imperative for good photos, none of the other papers hold the ink as well. |

I have the less popular HP 8450. It's quite a gem and black & whites are simply stunning. I'm very happy with it. I wish only that it printed larger than 8.5x11 |

I bought this HP Deskjet 840C way before I started getting serious about photography or printing and it's doing a killer job. Slow but the results are great.

My HP 7960 is an AMAZING printer! (The newer version of it is the 8450). With HP Premium Plus paper, it's images have a life expectancy of 86 years in color, 200 in B&W. Unlike my old Canon printer, the 7960 will print on anybody's media and look great, HOWEVER Wilhelm Labs says the HP paper was designed for hp inks and that combination will give maximum longevity.
I recently had a chance to make about 12 prints on the HP DesignJet 130. It can print sizes from 4X6" to 24 inch roll paper. It is easy to use and I printed several gorgeous images up to 24 X 36. Archival durability the same as the PhotoSmart series! THAT will be my next printer! |

I'm just back from the store with a new Epson R1800, I wanted the 13X19 capability. I'm installing it now and will let you know what I think soon.
Thanks everyone for your comments,
John

I'm happy to say that the R1800 is a wonderful machine. It prints beautiful photos. I have done a couple 13 X 19's that I hung around the house as well as replaced most of the other faded 8 X 10's and 5 X 7's. The only thing I dread is replacing the 8 cartridges when they go empty.
Thanks again

Canon i9900. Man its great to print when you want. Although I've only done a few A3's,they turned out great. Some ink colors go faster than others. |
