I don't care about brand as long as everyone tries to create good photos.

But don't say "Nikon RIP" because of a EUR 4000 body or stuff like "full frame is important because of the way it works with the lens". Those arguments are questionable. 35mm can be important for you because of lower noise and viewfinder size and perhaps a little bit of extra pixels high and wide (the latter only for the 1Ds). There is no other reason why you'd choose a 5D fullframe over a D2X DX/APS-C system (assuming you're starting from scratch with lenses).
The 1Ds MKII is a different story. Excluding the medium format backs it is the technology leader and a big step further than the 5D.

Well, take this opinion with a pinch of salt, but... imo the only thing that's been holding up nikon in the market in the last few years have been their bodies... their lenses have been trailing at least 5 years behind canon's, and if you take this to be the definitive new canon body (which i personally wouldn't do, btw), then you could indeed be justified to say that this means nikon rip.

I still think this 5D is a hoax for now. And I'll keep thinking that until there's an official anouncment on Canon's page or Dpreview.

I have trouble believing this. They don't seem like they're aimed at the same market at all. If it were to be a D60/10D/20D replacement I would expect it to be closer to the price points of the previous generation or two. Since the price points are so far off from each other I can't see why they would affect each other's resale value.

I'm definitely not saying it's a 20d replacement..it's not. The 20d price will come down however because there's going to be a new swarm of people who can now afford a full frame digital camera which they could not before.

Very much like the 300d, the 20d was an entry into digital for a lot of film shooters. Those shooters have been craving full frame ever since they went digital and will now have that option without spending ten grand.

That price on the used 20d's is coming down, I'd bet my magic drain pipe on it.

Ah, NOW you say used 20d's :)

Nope, I've been saying that all along. Look through the correspondance you just quoted, I say it a few times. Also, if you look at the original quoted post, you'll see that I'm not just claiming that the price will go down (I mean, where else would it go) but I'm stating that I believe the price will go down as dramatically as the price of the 300d between Winter 2004 and Summer 2005...where the used price went down from about $1200 CAD to $700 CAD in a matter of months. Now that's dramatic.

Oh, you're saying the price of the 20D will also drop to around 58% of its current value within a couple of months because of this? Ok, according to dpreview the street price of the 20D is now US$1386. If this number hasn't dropped to US$808 within two months what do i win? :)
