I just got a new lens today, and I took some test shots. This is the first time I have ever used a non-zoom lens...this will certainly take some getting used to! i really love how shallow the depth of field can get with this new lens!

Here is one of my first shots. CC welcome and encouraged -- i'm a total novice with a ton to learn!

FYI: I really find that the color from this lens is more true to life than our kit lens -- my son's skin is really that fair, his hair is really that red, and my husband's skin tone is really that dark/ruddy. I think this is my favorite thing about this lens so far is the color that it produces.

I have my Canon 50 mm/1.8 lens as a hold over from my early film Rebel years (early 90's) and it continues to be a great/versatile lens. Flash is right about learning photography with this great, basic prime lens.

Have fun. And absolutely, this 50 mm kicks the kit lens to the curb.

I have heard such great things about this lens, I think I might get it! :)

I got one a couple months ago, and I love it. It's light, fast, sharp, and you can get quite close to your subject. It's my default lens now (when I'm not using the macro). I love it that it is not a zoom! I don't think I like zoom lenses very much.

Added: BTW, it's also quite inexpensive - a real bargain.

Isn't it around $100 for one? With all the lens Faidoi has, isn't this the cheapest? I'm going to buy one soon, I can't wait to use it.

I have the canon equivalent to that lens and it rarely leaves my camera these days. I just love it! And those are some nice shots. :-)

I got one a few months back, too, and I love it! I only wish it were around 35mm to make up for the 1.5x factor (it's a little too zoomed). I also paid around $120, only because I went to the local camera shop. Could have paid something like $89 at B&H.

It is fun to play with shots wide open to experiment with the DOF!
