So I am in Starbucks this morning, and I feel like I need a little more jump-start than regular coffee can provide me. So I order a large coffee and a double shot of espresso. I usually end up with two separate drinks.

The woman behind the counter calls over to the barista, "Doubleshot for a hammerhead!" I bristle - I mean who exactly does she think she is calling a hammerhead? I'm all sensitive at 6:45 in the morning. I prepare to launch into my own verbal tirade, but then I see her take my coffee cup over to the barista, who pours the espresso into my coffee. Apparently "Hammerhead" is the code word for espresso dumped into regular coffee. So I learned something today.

And it's good. I left Starbucks armed with an incremental boost to my vocabulary and enough caffeine to keep a dorm wing up all night.

Just thought I'd share :-)

Lol, my fantasies revolve around double shots and anything that would keep a dorm wing up all night.

I have been drinking coffee since i was 6 or 7. i live on the stuff. I never had 'fancy coffee' till about a year ago. I have become addicted. about 2 months ago i bought my own capuccino machine. (mr coffee makes several models, starting at $30). I will have to try this Hammerhead thing.

Something else I heard about in coffee - that is MUCH better than it first sounds - it was Ray Charles ' favorite - gin in coffee.

Oh my god, I find the whole coffee shop vocabulary hilarious!

skinny latte caramel extra shot no froth to go!

LOL

Whatever happened to: "Can I have a coffee please?" ?

LOL

Not that I can talk, I usually ask for the following:

A regular latte please, how many shots does that usually include? two? ok can i have mine extra weak with just half of a shot only? no not half strength, that would be a full shot, I want mine quarter strength, half a shot will be fine, thanks and oh can you make that with fair trade coffee please? Thanks

You can still do that at Tim Horton's. You just have to specify what size and how much milk/sugar.

I wouldn't just ask for coffee in the UK. You'll get that instant crap. Unless, of course you go to Starbucks. ;)

I wouldn't either!

And I prefer Costa Coffee to Starbucks though I won't actively avoid Starbucks as some of my friends do!!!

If you wanna triple the price, you need to quadruple the name!

I do'nt get the caffeine fascination period. And if not having your morning cup of coffee yet makes you want to leap over the counter and freak out because you THINK someone just offended you verbally - maybe you need rehab :-) Just sayin'....

:-o

I don't have a caffeine "fascination" any more than I have a "fascination" for anything else I enjoy eating or drinking. I just take pleasure in it. Simple as that.

And it's not the caffeine I dig anyway - I like the flavour of coffee itself.

Confused you don't get that others might like a product that you don't like.

I agree that if someone wants to leap over the counter and freak out they have some serious issues!!!

I am a spoiled coffee drinker.

I can not stand preground coffee in a can, it has to be beans that I can ground myself.

Starbucks is the "library", or the "university" of coffee exploration. You pay a tuition of $5 bucks a coffee, but what you recieve in return is the knowledge of a well made cup of joe.

At work, I only drink from the craft service table, and never from the caterer. I think the caterer recycles his grounds because it totally sucks.

During a 12+ hour day, I expect a decent cup of coffee, or I get cranky.

When I was back home I drank espresso all the time.....my usual was a "Mexican mocha, double shot, with whip cream (mind you they made their own whip cream, not out of a can). Unfortunately Florida (where I'm at anyhow) is not big on coffee houses. They have a little coffee place down on Harrison Avenue and a starbucks just opened up by the mall ... and it is tttiiinnnyyy!

The original post was intended as tongue-in-cheek humor regarding what I thought was a humorous start to my day. Just in case there are any doubts, I don't really plan on jumping any Starbucks counters in the near future. I think most people got it though.

Coffee with espresso poured in it has dozens, if not hundreds, of names. Red eye, Black eye, Shot in the Dark, Depth Charge, Scooter Shooter, Eye Opener, etc.

I have a personal belief that coffee should be straight coffee and espresso should be straight espresso. For some odd reason, whenever I have one of the aformentioned drinks, they taste vile and bitter. All I ever drink are: Coffee, Espresso, and Lattes - usually a double in 4 oz of milk.

Coffee in America, and pretty much throughout the world, is horrible, which is why people hate espresso so much. Surprisingly, the drink can be sweet and intense and subtle and flavorful - everything you could possibly want it to be.

If you don't believe me, check out the other forum I frequent:

Why oh why did I ever taste a caramel macchiato or a mocha bianca? If you haven't, trust me...DON'T. You'll become a hopeless addict as well. ;)

Time for coffee!

I live in Starbucks land and my wife recently got into the whole espresso thing and bought an expensive "prosumer" maker and grinder and now we supply all the neighber kids with carmel-machiatto-grande-mocha-cappucino-venti drinks.

My strategy is to let her give them away for free for awhile until they become hooked, then start charging for them. muwahahaha!
