I understand if my photo is not wooden nor if wood is not major compositional element but it is and I don't understand. Just a little frustrated I guess because I thought this was a good photo.

im having the same problem... mine is ALL wood, nothing else inthe photo, and i really like the shot too, it went from 6 the first vote to 3.2...!!!! can't believe it...it's now around 4.6... lowest ever.. gotta laugh though....

oh well

Before you make a hasty decision, you really should qualify your statement. The audience here a DPC is not really the best venue in which to qualify you as an artist but moreso as a master at mass appeal. Use this site for the subjective input it provides you but not as the final tally on your vision as an artist. If anything, this place will make your skin a bit thicker and your talents mnore rounded. It is certainly frustrating though not conclusive by any means. Keep snapping photos and leave your expectations for venues that are truly worthy of your anxiety.

Someone (don't remember who) pointed out in another thread that there are two skills to be learned: (1) the skill of taking good photos, and; (2) the skill of making other people like them.

Something to be learned from that, I suspect.

I did. It's good to get them out of the way within the first 24 hours. That way we can all avoid major and minor bouts of Manic Depression in the long run.

...hang in there trooper.

Better than my last entry but not by much....oh well...but wasn't expecting a lot from this one. Would have liked to be in the 4.5+ range.

Though I am hoping to see my next entry for "Tools of the Trade" to do well. (Although I expect it'll receive a lot of 1's for being such an oddity...so we shall see.)

Just try and beat your previous best score.
I think alot of the ribbon winners are great shots but some of them are total average, but because they appeal to the cliche they get high score. Dont fret, take a look at some of the profiles. There are some awesome photographers with portfolios that kill some others who have won ribbons.

A challenge is a one shot contest, not a true representation of your skill or style as a photographer.

everyone go comment on the images you made 4 or lower...there aren't that many entries.. it shouldn't be too hard.

Very positive comments so far, which I've become unacustomed to after my last few off-the-wall (gross) entries. I think I'm getting a cavity, I need to find more dead heads of animals. :-D

I'm not doing very well myself but it really does not matter because I learn a lot by viewing a wide range of talent.

well it was inevitable, i see how my wooden challenge is doing and wonder how my other shot would have done.

how do you suppose this shot would have done instead of the 4.01scored photo i have up now.

This is my first challenge and I am not faring too badly with an average of 4.87 odd, but one thing that is ticking me off a bit is that I have had a couple of comments and three of the four state, "the wood is not the focus of the picture"!!!! Okay guys if you read the criteria of the challenge it states that the wood should be "an important component of the composition". Am I missing something here? Can I suggest that everyone who has voted on the wood being the focus go back and re-evaluate their decisions, they could unfairly be marking entrants down based on their incorrect assumptions of the contest criteria.

Okay thats my bit Hehehe

You are quite right, Lori. There always seem to be some who only read the challenge title and do not read the description. In this case, wood is to be a component in the image, not necessarily the focus.

I also encourage voters to reevaluate if they've made this mistake.

... important component to be precise. Though, as you say does not need to be the main subject. How important will be at the mercy of the voters. If the wood is too much a secondary component of the image the vote will not be favourable. See edit.....

edit: One thing to ask: If the wood object weren't present would the image still work? If the answer is no then you be the judge.

I would and your right it wouldn't be that hard. I think most of the pictures that I have voted that low on though all have the same characteristic. Now easy guys.....I am only throwing this out there to be helpful...not to be over critical or a "troll", but I am just seeing alot of boring pictures. Im just not feeling it, geeze, I hope somebody out there feels the same.

Owe yeah, 4.5, but lots of good comments. <----go figure.

I am finally improving a bit. Of my last 7 entrries one was 6+ and one under 5, the rest (including my Wooden entry, so far) are in the 5-5.5 range. Consistiency too!
