Thank you, Robert.

-I don't think the highlights on the bamboo are fixable. I can drop the output white levels, but it doesn't change the fact it's still blown. I guess I could clone/heal them?
-I put a border around the arcade. I had done that to cover that little black part but forgot to make the layer visible. I also backed off the sharpening, like you mentioned. Better?

Could you comment on this one, too? By the way, I realize it's not stunning art. I'm just trying to get the art of b&w down.

Much better on the arcade. For the bamboo, as an exercise in rescuing the shot, make a selection of the blown highlights. make a duplicate layer from background, laod the selection, go to filters and load a texture. Then adjust levels and blur on the texture, and fade the layer until it looks natural. This often works with small, blown highlights. Best recourse is to shoot at the correct exposure, of course, and shoot RAW if possible so you and adjust the histogram precisely after the fact.

Commented to the palms shot. You have sharpening issues there as well.

Thanks a lot for taking the second look. I appreciate the great advice on fixing the blown highlights, fixing the "leveling" issues on the palm trees, and oversharpening.

I've been having a bit of problem with oversharpening lately. I picked up a new tool that does a great job of sharpening. Better than USM, in my opinion. But I've noticed I have a tendency to overdo it now.

I'm glad you pointed out oversharpening in all the images. I will go back and take a serious look at my last 10 or so images and see if I've been doing it to everything.

Once again, many thanks!

Balboa Park?? I thought there'd be a big bronze statue of Rocky or something! :)
