Ugh! This is the first day I've really had some time on DPC. I did meet with a client in Seattle last week and I always take my camera and drive around looking for shots when I go out. I managed to get a few interesting Architecture type shots, but no real detail ones.

edit: Here is one from last year that fits the assignment I believe:

I am in Boston now, so I'm sure to get some good shots. The hard part now will be to post them...
We can still post for assignment 2 and 3? |

No problem, Brian. Post them when you can and note which assignment they are for. Beantown has some great architecture so I am very envious.

Woah, sorry I haven't posted anything. I'll comment on all these when I get a chance, and I'll get some shots, too. I've been busy. |

NP, Brad. Get to them when you can. I am in the same boat and have a bit to catch up on myself! Bad, mentor, bad!

Checked out my first assignment pics; thanks for all the critiques! Thanks Robert and everyone for many helpful ideas..I do have other shots of that bridge, and yes, there are two bridges, the older one is now replaced by the ugly newer bridge on left...I'll try to get some old/new architecture this week if I can get into Prov...I'll post the bridge and superstructure in color. and the other one:

The color is better in this picture..the other has the weird blue-cast.

This is a great shot, Marion! It's a bit darker than the other one, but better color yes. What about camera settings? Curious about aperture...

Thanks for the comments on some of my shots. Most of them were shot as I was driving by or hanging out the window at an intersection. The Space Needle one I liked because it was like a flying saucer over some apartments. BrianH commented about the wires being distracting - I totally agree - but look at the original! I just didn't have time to remove them all.

I put in the shutter/aperture, etc. on the bridge picture,Ken..thanks for your comments! It's still in the 90s here so I haven't taken any shots in Providence, perhaps tomorrow..however, I have taken Ken's Space Needle picture to new heights...or is it lows..no more wine, bad Marion.

I like it. Feels like the Batman TV series from the '60s. :)

Ahhhh, poor New Englanders! Ya, I'm just glad I'm vacationing here, it's about 120 in Phoenix, and 18 people have died. |

Hi Gang, I'm back and ready to learn archtecture photography again. Wandered off to Lake Tahoe for a few days - was it ever nice.
After looking at dragonlady's interpretation of kpriest's image, I had to try one too. I'd call it "up periscope" but it's the wrong shape. Here 'tis...
Anyhow, now I'll go look more carefully at the rest of the images I missed this week.

Assignment:An architectural comparison image. A combination of two or more buildings or other architecture combined to accentuate the differences in style. Newer versus older works fine as do color contrasts...
Here are some shots that probably fit this assignment. I took them just before I left...

Sorry I've been taking so long, my flight back from the East Coast had weather delays. I have two posts for our first assignment a while back, the one with the Micro/Macro shots-
Anybody else read this book?

Here's a few for the architectural comparison image. I would have to say that Boston is second to none in the U.S. for this type of image, this theme came to my mind everywhere I turned.
Here's one I entered in a challenge a while back-

Wow - some nice pics kpriest. I especially like the brownstones. The colors are amazing. Should we be surprised? Seems this is a strong point for you.
I am excited about the shots I got this morning. I was out on the streets before sunrise. I will post them soon.
Wanted to ask - what lens do you prefer/recommend for architecture photography?

Hi Joy -
Thanks for the comments. Regarding lens - I just use my default lens Sigma 28-70mm. It's not as wide as I would like though. I would like to have this: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM.
